Five-minute Multiplication Mastery: An Action Research on Interventions to Impr
ove High School Students’ Proficiency in Multiplication
LEARNING PLAN NO. 1
School: ALANGALANG AGRO INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL Date: __________________
Subject: MATHEMATICS 8 Time: _________________
I. OBJECTIVE:
After several activities, the students are expected to enhance students’ ability to memorize
and recall the products of numbers from 1 to 10 with speed and accuracy.
II. RATIONALE:
Fluency in multiplication facts is crucial for success in higher mathematics. Memorizing
these facts frees up cognitive resources for more complex problem solving.
I. SUBJECT MATTER:
1. Topic: Multiplying Whole Numbers
2. References: Mathematics Learner’s Material
3. Materials: Visual Materials, worksheets
Assessment Strategies:
Activity 1: Timed Multiplication Test:
Purpose: To gauge students' overall fluency and speed in recalling multiplication facts. This test
provides a snapshot of their current mastery level.
Procedure:
Create a test containing all 100 multiplication facts (1 x 1 to 10 x 10), presented in a random
order.
Students will have a set amount of time (e.g., 5 minutes) to complete as many problems as
possible.
Provide a clear answer sheet for students to record their answers.
Scoring:
Republic of the Philippines
Department of Education
Regional Office VIII (Eastern Visayas)
ALANGALANG AGRO INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL
Alangalang, Leyte
One point for each correct answer.
Total score and time taken will be recorded.
Analysis:
Students scoring 90% or higher within the time limit have likely mastered the facts.
Students scoring below 70% or taking significantly longer than the average need additional
practice.
Analyze individual performance to identify specific areas of weakness (e.g., facts involving a
particular number).

Activity 2: Multiplication Fact Fluency Check
Purpose: To pinpoint specific facts that students struggle with and guide targeted practice.
Procedure:
Prepare short, timed drills focusing on specific multiplication facts.
Each drill will contain 10 problems involving a single number (e.g., 7 x 1, 7 x 2, 7 x 3, etc.).
Timer the students as they complete each drill, recording the time taken for each set of 10
problems.
Analysis:
Analyze the data to identify patterns in areas of strength and weakness.
For example, if a student consistently takes longer to complete drills involving the number 6,
it indicates a need for focused practice on those facts.

Activity 3: Multiplication Problem-Solving Assessment
Purpose: To assess students' ability to apply their multiplication knowledge in real-world contexts
and solve problems involving multiplication.
Procedure:
Create a set of word problems that require students to use their multiplication facts.
The problems will be varied in complexity and involve different real-world scenarios.
Encourage students to show their work and explain their reasoning.
Analysis:
Evaluate the accuracy of students' solutions and their ability to demonstrate their
understanding of the problem-solving process.
Identify students who can successfully apply their multiplication knowledge to solve
problems.
Determine students who struggle with translating word problems into mathematical equations
or applying their multiplication facts in context.

Activity 3: Multiplication Problem-Solving Assessment:
NAME: ________________________________________________
DATE: _____________________
Direction: Solve and show your work on the space provided.
1. There are 8 apples in a cartoon. How many apples are there in 3 cartoons?
2. If there are 9 train arrivals every day. How many train arrivals are there in 4 days?
3. Bella’s garden has 3 rows of eggplants. Each row has 7 eggplants. How many eggplants does
Bella have in all?
4. Mia has 4 cupcakes but her friend Anna has 3 times what she has. How many cupcakes does
Anna have?
5. Each person has 6 marbles, if there are 3 people, how many marbles are in total?
Observation:
Purpose: To gain insights into students' learning processes and identify individual needs.
Procedure:
Observe students during practice sessions, games, and activities involving multiplication.
Note their speed, accuracy, and strategies for recalling multiplication facts.
Observe their engagement, confidence, and willingness to participate.

Analysis:
Use observations to identify students who are struggling with specific facts, those who are
using effective strategies, and those who require additional support or challenge.
Student Self-Assessment:
Purpose: To empower students to take ownership of their learning and identify areas for
improvement.
Procedure:
Provide students with self-assessment tools, such as checklists, rubrics, or reflection prompts.
Encourage them to reflect on their progress, identify areas where they need further practice,
and set goals for improvement.
Analysis:
Use student self-assessments to guide individual instruction and provide targeted support.
Differentiation:
Support:
Provide students with multiplication charts or manipulatives to help them visualize the
problems.
Break down the learning into smaller steps and provide scaffolding to guide students through
the process.
Use visual aids, such as diagrams, number lines, or arrays, to illustrate multiplication
concepts.
Extension:
Challenge students to create their own multiplication problems or games.
Encourage them to explore patterns and relationships within multiplication facts.
Introduce more complex multiplication problems involving larger numbers or multiple steps.
