Close your eyes and feel the breeze on a hilltop.
Within that touch lies an incredible force: Wind
Energy. Today, we explore its hidden potential, innovation, and ability to shape a sustainable world.
When we think of wind energy, we envision windmills.
At the heart of a wind turbine, rotor blades capture the wind's kinetic energy. As the blades spin,
they turn a shaft connected to a generator. This generator converts the mechanical energy into
electrical energy.
However, this traditional setup depends on sufficient wind speed (15km/hr), let's revolutionize this.
Imagine innovative gear motors replacing blades. This transformation increases revolutions per
minute (RPM), enhancing efficiency and power generation. With this innovation, wind energy can be
summoned on demand, free from reliance on fossil fuels.
Every gust of wind propels us toward a sustainable future. The wind farm clusters of Madappan,
Tamil Nadu and Jaisalmer, Rajasthan; offer more than electricity; they cultivate hope, liberating us
from finite resources and diminishing emissions, and painting a greener horizon for the generations
to come.
Wind energy isn't confined by borders; its benefits ripple across nations. Empowering communities,
fostering resilience, and nurturing self-sufficiency, wind energy promises transformation without
boundaries.
Wind energy isn't just a concept; it's the catalyst for a brighter future. Let's seize this promise, join
nature's treasure, and craft a world where energy flows like the air we breathe.
As you leave today, consider your role in this journey. Embrace wind energy and let's create a world
where innovation meets sustainability.
Country Ranking
China- 1st
USA- 2nd
Germany- 3rd
India- 4th (Tamil Nadu- Muppandal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan-Jaisalmer)
Potential in India
Western states or coastal regions have larger potential (upto 320 GW—320 billion watts) in terms
of a stable, steady, and speedy wind flow because they have a high wind velocity, which makes
them suitable for the installation of wind turbines.
Policies:
National Offshore Wind Energy Policy, 2015: developing wind power along the coastline
A Solar-Wind Hybrid policy, May 2018: promotion of large grid-connected wind-solar
photovoltaic (PV) hybrid systems
Advantages:
Renewable
Low-cost and clean energy (doesn’t emit greenhouse gases)
Disadvantage:
turbines can only generate electricity when the wind is blowing at sufficient strength i.e. 15km/hr or
more.
Solution: replacing these blades with a gear motor will increase the RPM (revolutions/min) output
for achieving better, optimal, and efficient utilization. This can be generated on demand, and won't
be dependent anymore on the fossil-fuel-based power supply.
