EXPERIMENT 1
You are provided with:
0.1M hydrochloric acid labelled solution A
Sodium hydroxide solution labelled as solution B
You are required to determine the molarity of solution B

Procedure
i) Fill the burette with solution A
ii) Using pipette, pipette 25cm³ of solution B and place in a conical flask
iii) Add 2 drops of phenolphthalein indicator and titrate with solution A until the
pink colour disappears
iv) Record your results in the table below
v) Repeat the titrations two more times and complete the table below.

Solution B containing 7.3g a mixture of sodium chloride and anhydrous sodium
carbonate in a 500cm³ of solution.

Procedure
vi) Fill the burette with solution A
vii) Using pipette, pipette 25cm³ of solution B and place in a conical flask
viii) Add 2 drops of methyl orange and titrate with solution A
ix) Record your results in the table below
x) Repeat the titrations two more times and complete the table below.

ii) Add 2 drops of methyl orange indicator
iii) Fill the burette with solution A
iv) Titrate solution B using solution A and fill the table below
v) Repeat two more times and complete the table below

EXPERIMENT 4

You are provided with:


2M hydrochloric acid labelled as solution R
0.4M sodium hydroxide labelled as solution Q
1.06g accurately weighed anhydrous carbonate X2CO3 labelled as solid A

Procedure
i) Using a clean measuring cylinder, measure 50cm3 of solution R and transfer in
100cm3plastic beaker.
ii) Add all solid A at once into the moments of the beaker, stir until
effervescence stops.
iii) Transfer this solution into a 250cm3 volumetric flask and add distilled water
up to the mark. Label this solution as B
iv) Fill the burette with solution Q
v) Pipette 25.0cm3 of solution B into a conical flask. Add 2 drops of
phenolphthalein indicator.
vi) Titrate solution B using solution Q.
vii) Record your results in the table
viii) Repeat the titration two more times and complete the table below.

You are required to determine the basicity of the acid A

Procedure
Pipette 25.0cm3portions of solution B and titrate against solution A in a burette using
phenolphthalein indicator and fill in the table

You are required to determine the mass of A in the compound of Na2A.

Procedure
Using pipette, pipette 25cm3of solution Y and place in a conical flask
Add 2 drops of methyl orange indicator
Fill the burette with solution X
Titrate solution Y using solution X and fill the table below
Repeat two more times and complete the table below

You are provided with:

A solution of sodium hydroxide containing 1.0g of sodium hydroxide in 250cm3 of


solution.
A solution of acid Y, (CH2)X (COOH2) containing 2.95g of acid in 250cm3 of solution.

You are required to determine the value of x in the formula of the acid.
The dibasic acid reacts with sodium hydroxide as follows:
2NaOH + CH2)X (COOH2) _________2H2O + CH2)X (COONa)2

Procedure
Pipette 25.0cm3of sodium hydroxide solution and titrate against the acid solution in a
burette using phenolphthalein indicator and fill in the table.

litre

You are required to standardize the potassium manganate (VII) solution using the
ammonium iron (II) sulphate, solution B

Procedure

Fill the burette with solution A


Using pipette, pipette 25cm³ of solution B and place in a conical flask
Titrate solution B with solution A until a permanent pink colour just appears.
Record your results in the table below
Repeat the titrations two more times and complete the table below.
