Educational environment is one of the most important factor in determining the

success of an effective curriculum and subsequently the student’s academic success. The

quality of educational climate impacts the quality of the curriculum teaching and learning

consideration and developing student outcomes as practitioners.

Choosing the ideal career is one of the most important and essential decisions a

person must make this maybe one factor determining whether someone will succeed in the

future or not. Self- realization and career exploration at school are few of the stage tentative

phases. Senior high school students must be guided at this time in making a decision about

the desired careers.

Students who studied Senior High School specifically in arts and design are more

preferable to continue what has already been studied, if trying to enroll in college.

Specifically, those school who offered Bachelor of Secondary in Education major in Music,

Arts, Physical Education, and health (BSED-MAPEH), and Bachelor of Physical

Education (BPED) this courses may really help them to pursue. Each student has already

learned the pillars of Physical Education (PE) during their senior high school, and this

really help individuals to improve the knowledge especially in terms of socialization and

showto everyone that every individual has a talent and different skills.

Physical Education (PE) seemed, however not to offer the less socially resourceful

minority the same opportunities for positive experience with physical activity as the

resourceful majority. Boys general perception of physical education seemed to be more

positive than girls and physically active students perceived physical education classes more

favorably than less physically active students (Llego M.A 2022).

3

Theoretical framework

Butnaro, G. et.al (2021) said that the Bachelor of Physical education program can

provideopportunities for students to engage in a variety of learning experiences through

active play, and other physical activities that are planned systematically, focused and

arrange in the learning process with personal interests playing a significant role. The better

the learning activities, the bigger the student’s interest.

The higher the level of the learning activities, the higher the students interest.

Becoming a better student means living a healthy life. The Bachelor of Physical Education

gives us a chance to participate in any physical activity, not only in active play but also

in different ways to stay healthy that help every student become physically and mentally

fit and healthier to stay longer and achieve their goals in life.

Conceptual Framework

This study focuses on the “Survey on the Perceived Viability of Physical Education

Program to Senior High School students of Humanities and Social Studies (HUMMS),

Accountancy Business Management (ABM), and General Academic Strand (GAS) in

Aurora Pioneer Memorial College and same strand in Aurora National High School,

school year 2023-2024, with the predestined factors presented in the next page. As shown

in the figure 1 the dependent variable in this study were the perceived viability to senior

high school students. The independent variable are the components of physical education

which are the music, arts, and health. While the moderating variables are the equitable

and inclusive success and creating activities and competition appropriately and have

inclusive physical education program.

4

Figure 1 shows the relationship between dependent variable and moderating

variable to the independent variables. The arrow of the dependent variable is directed to

moderating variables to the independent variable because this study will use different

standardized survey to determine the perceived viability promotion on Bachelor of

Physical Education (BPED) program.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the perceived viability of senior high school with the

use of questionnaire and art materials by giving motivation to grade 11 and 12 students

of Aurora National High School and Aurora Pioneer Memorial College. Specifically, this

study shall answer the following questions.

1.What is the level of knowledge of the respondents according to the;

1.1 Age

2.2 Gender

2.Is there any significant difference in the level of knowledge about physical education to
5

the respondents?

3.Is there any significant impact to respondents between their knowledge and level of

performances?

Statement of Hypothesis

The following null hypotheses will be formulating for questions two to three tested

using 0.95 level of significance with one question as hypothesis free;

Ho1: There is no significant difference in the respondents by the level of their knowledge

in terms of their age.

Ho2: There is no significant difference in the respondents in the level of knowledge about

physical education to the respondents.

Ho3: There is no significant impact to respondents between their knowledge and level of

performances.

Significance of the Study

The primary purpose of the researchers in conducting this study to help students

in grade 11 and 12 to appreciate and to expound the knowledge to the extent level about

physical education and with the pillars and how high or low the level of appreciation of

the respondents towards physical education. In that way students will gain more

knowledge and will equip in the field of physical education. The researchers believed that

students would somehow love the significance of physical education. The result of this

study will be beneficial to the following:

MAPEH/PE instructor. They play a significant role in promoting and preserving the

beauty and significance of physical education. Can find the result of this research in
6

creating and engaging the students in learning the physical education.

Students. The result of this study will measure the level of appreciation of the students in

terms of music, arts, physical education, and health.

Future Researchers. This study could be interesting because they will know how many

students are still interested in physical education.

Scope and Limitation

The researchers limit the scope of this study to the pillars of Physical Education

which are the Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health Education as the dependent

variable to the perceived viability to Senior High School students as the independent

variable with the moderating variables of Equitable an Inclusive success and Creating

activities and competitions appropriately.

The respondents of this study were the senior high school students of Humanities

Academic Strand (HUMMS), Accountancy Business Management (ABM), and General

Academic Strand (GAS) of Aurora Pioneer Memorial College and the same strand

students in Aurora National High School. The study will be done through the utilization

of the self-made questionnaire to the respondents as a survey and reference. The

limitation of the study are the few availabilities of the related literature and the references

related to study.

Definition of Terms

This section of the chapter deals with the definition of terms mentioned in the paper.

These terms were defined operationally to have a clearer understanding of the study:

Physical Education (PE). It is class that is designed to help students improve their

physical health and well-being.

7

Viability. The ability to succeed in the BPED program.

Music. Is to help develop brains, and musical activity involves the whole brain every

neural region that science knows about has something to do with learning and processing

music.

Arts. Is the ability to help the fine motor capabilities, hand-eye coordination, problem-

solving abilities, lateral thinking, sophisticated analysis, and critical thinking abilities are

all enhanced by arts. It can also boost creativity and broadens horizon.

Perceived. Is to become aware or to understand the significance of physical education

and how great if you are engaging specifically in sports.

Health. Is to help individuals to be empowered and communities to live healthier by

improving physical, mental, emotional, and social health through increasing their

knowledge and to influence their attitude on caring their wellbeing.

Bachelor of Physical Education Program. Is to help develop student’s insights and

appreciation of Physical Education and Health as viable discipline applicable to all facets

of social activities, movement competency and proficiency, demonstrate skillful

performance in variety of physical activities.

8
9

among college students may be an important strategy to ensure of developing the regular

physical activity habits which can continue throughout the adult life. Physical activity is seen

to influence the improvement of fitness parameters among college students. It has been

found that the Metabolic Equivalent (MET) and body fat percentage were negatively

correlated among college students. Researchers also pointed out that increased physical

activity led to positive effects on vertical jump performance among college men.

Collegiate students engaging in recreational sports demonstrated higher muscular

endurance as compared to those who are sedentary.

Foreign Literature

Shakopee et.al (2016) to increase the quality of physical education programs and the

physical competence, health related fitness, self-responsibility, and enjoyment of physical

activity for all students so that be physically active for a lifetime.

Education Bureau (2022) it aims to develop student’s physical competence and

knowledge of movement and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide

range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It

also develops student’s confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration,

communication, creativity, critical thinking, and aesthetic appreciation. These together

with nurturing of positive values and attitudes in physical education, provide a good

foundation for students lifelong and life wide learning. Advocates of school-based physical

activity have suggested that physical education, physical activity and sport may contribute

to the enhancement of academic performance either directly or through the achievement of

wider social outcomes which, in turn may impact on academic achievements. One area of

recent current interest has been whether or not participation in sport and other forms of
10

physical activity can enhance cognitive function, including memory and concentration.

Large all-encompassing reviewsexamining this relationship between physical activity and

learning behavior have suggestedthat student may indeed derive cognitive benefits from

participation in physical activity including sport.

Music

Music as a component of MAPEH, and first gained prominence in the early 500

BC to develop citizens capable of actively participating in Greek society. A research in

which scholars do original research on ways teaching and learning music.

Mac Donald et.al (2012) music activities span a wide spectrum including solo

instrumental performance which has been an integral part of music education for years as

well as communal music activities, affecting people in all walls.

Art
According to Frederick Logan that art is a logical point of departure for the study of

history of art education. Logan’s book focuses on three aspects in some degree of

interrelationship: thee development of public school art in the context of American art

history, the training of the artist in the context of American art history, and the general

growth of the arts in American culture. Logan skillfully demonstrates the use of the past

asa basis for understanding the present and for projecting an image of the future.

Physical Education

Physical education began in 380 BC. In ancient Greece. Plato who invented

physical education. Physical education is part of the curriculum in schools throughout the

world, but this isn’t enough to prevent rising numbers of obese and unhealthy students.

This is partlydue to the amount of physical education on the timetable. The National
11

Association for Sport and Physical education (NASPE) recommend that students be

engaged in at least 60minutes of physical activity on all or most days of the week. However,

few schools have daily physical activity, and many have cut the length of recess in order

to give students more time to study. Physical education has come a long way over the past

200 years, but itneeds to be given still more time and attention if it is to improve the nation’s

health.

Health

The existence of the field of health education is justified by a large body of evidence

indicating the need for health behavior change. We know that it is important for students

to participate more effectively in education about health. There is clearly a needs programs

that can help students do things of this sort.

Health education is a profession of educating people about health. Areas within this

profession encompasses environmental health, physical health, social health, emotional

health, intellectual health, and spiritual health, as well as sexual and reproductive health

education. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health education as consisting

of consciously constructed opportunities for learning involving some form of

communication designed to improve health literacy, including improving knowledge, and

developing life skills which are conducive to individual and community health.

National Certificate II (NC II). The school taught a lot of lessons not only in school paper

works, but also how to face the reality in life.

In light of this, Aurora National High School is also research respondents in this

study located at Balide, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. The school proudly offers the basic

education curriculum that molds every students learning capabilities to conquer the future.

The school cater junior high school and senior high school, the school offered strand STEM

(Science and Technology Engineering Mathematics), ABM (Accountancy Business

Management), HUMSS (Humanities and Social Studies), and TVL- Arts and Design.

Research Respondent

The research subject of this study will be the Grade 11 and 12 Humanities and

Social Studies (HUMMS), Accountancy Business Management (ABM), and General

Academic Strand (GAS) in Aurora National High School that composed of 147 girls and

15 boys and with the same strand respondents in Aurora Pioneer Memorial College Grade

11 and 12, which also composed of 87 girls and 32 boys. The students will be utilized to

assess the correlation of the pillars in Physical Education.

Sampling Design

The researchers shall use random sampling number table. The researchers will ask

for assistance from the senior high school students who currently enrolled in Aurora

Pioneer Memorial College and Aurora National High School to assess who among the two

variables is the highest student to enroll in the Bachelor of Physical Education program.

Research Instrument

In this study, the researchers will be using the questionnaire. The questionnaire is a set
14

orderly arranged questions carefully according to the pillars of physical education,

prepared to answer by a group of students designed to collect facts and information. The

first part of the questionnaire is the researchers will be going to discuss about prior

knowledge of the four pillars. The second part is using arts and sport materials and the

last part is the questions to be answered by the respondents.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure includes administration of the information sheet to

all respondents. Before conducting the test, the researchers will ask the approval of their

adviser to disseminate the letters to the Principal of Aurora National High School and the

Principal of Aurora Pioneer Memorial College. Upon the approval, two letters will be

sent to the respective addresses. First, is for the School Principal of Aurora National High

School, to ask permission for the launching of the test which includes the self- made test

of Music in which can help students give unique opportunities to express themselves

creativity and build confidence. Art is to encourage student’s self-expression and

creativity as a sense of individual identity. Physical Education can contribute directly to

development of physical competence, also can help students to make informed choices

and understand the value of leading a physically active lifestyle. Health is to help

individuals to be empowered and communities to live healthier by improving the physical,

mental, emotional and social health through increasing their knowledge and influencing

their attitude on caring for their well-being to see the importance of the pillars, and in

their school is one of the respondents in the said research. And the second letter, will be

given to the Senior High School Focal Person of Aurora Pioneer Memorial College to ask

permission to allow the researchers to conduct their study to the Grade 12 HUMSS, ABM,
15

and GAS students of the said school. The researchers will administer the test to ensure

genuine responses from the respondents. During the performance task, the researchers

will assist the respondents through giving clear instructions and asking clarification about

the rules and regulations as well as how to perform the task properly. The results of each

respondent will be recorded for the interpretation of the data gathered.

After the collection of the data needed, the researchers will arrange and prepare the

data for computation, analysis and interpretation. Careful analysis will be employed in

making the final draft, so that it would be free from any grammatical and technical errors.

All suggestions by authoritative individuals will incorporate in the final draft of the

instrument.

Statistical Treatment

All the data that will collected it will be computed and treated statistically with the
use of a computer software. For the descriptive statistics, the formula is as follows:

A. Percentage

Percentage = SCORE x 100

Total no. of Test

In measuring the mean, the formula used is:

∑ 𝑓𝑑
Mean = x = A.M. + ( )𝑖
𝑁

Where:

x = mean

A.M. = assumed mean

∑ 𝑓𝑑 = summation of the frequency multiplied by the deviation

16

N= number of respondents

i = class interval

To test the relationship, the formula of Person r is used.

(∑ 𝑥𝑦) − [∑ 𝑥 (∑ 𝑦)]
r=
√ [𝑛 (∑𝑥 2) −(∑ 𝑥)2] [𝑛 (∑𝑦 2) −(∑ 𝑦)2]

Where:

r = coefficient of correlation

∑ 𝑥 = summation of x column

∑ 𝑦 = summation of y column

∑𝑥 2 = summation of 𝑥2 column

∑𝑦 2 = summation of 𝑦2 column

∑ 𝑥𝑦 = summation of xy column

B. Principal Components Analysis for Correlation

The correlation coefficient that indicates the strength of the relationship between

two variables can be found using the following formula:

𝑟𝑥𝑦= ∑(𝑥𝑖−𝑥)(𝑦𝑖−𝑦)

√∑(𝑥𝑖−𝑥)2 ∑(𝑦𝑖−𝑦)2

Where:

𝑟𝑥𝑦 = the correlation coefficient of the linear relationship between the variables a and y
17

𝑥𝑖 = the value of x – variables in a sample

𝑥 = the mean of the values of the x – variable

𝑦𝑖 = the values of the y – variable in a sample

𝑦= the mean of the y – variable

C. For the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)

The Anova test is performed by comparing two types of variation, the

variation between the sample means, as well as the variation within each ofthe

samples. The below mentioned formula represents one-way Anova teststatistics:

F = MST / MSE

MST = SST/p-1

MSE=SSE/N-p

Where,

F = Anova Coefficient

MSB = Mean sum of squares between the groups

MSW = Mean sum of square within the groups

SST = total Sum of squares

k = Total number of populations

n = The total number of samples in population

SSW =Sum of squares between the groups

18

SSB = Sum of squares between the groups

S = Standard deviation of the samples

N = Standard deviation of the samples
