PEMBEDS - Week 1 Activity
PEMBEDS - Week 1 Activity
Purpose Tailored for specific, real-time tasks. Intended for a wide range
of applications.
- Real-Time System - has strict timing requirements. They can be divided into hard
real-time systems, where missing a deadline leads to system failure, and soft
real-time systems, where a missed deadline results in reduced quality but not failure.
For example, in avionics control, even a microsecond delay in response can have
severe consequences, so hard real-time systems are used.
- Network Systems -These computing systems interact with other devices or systems
through wired or wireless connections. They commonly utilize intricate protocols and
interfaces to facilitate smooth integration within a network, such as ATMs using
TCP/IP or IoT devices using MQTT. Specialized hardware like Ethernet controllers or
Wi-Fi modules are essential to provide security, synchronization, and real-time
communication capabilities.
- Consumer electronics
● Embedded systems are one of the most significant parts of our devices for
functionality. It is the core of every smart device, from smartphones to smart
home appliances. It provides efficiency that defines what modern technology
should offer. With this, it executes specific tasks effortlessly with unparalleled
precision.
- Medical Devices
● Embedded Systems are important in the modern-day medical industry as
they play the role of monitoring vital signs, amplifying sounds in electronic
stethoscopes, and also in every kind of imaging systems such as PET scans,
CT scans, and MRIs, Glucose monitors, pacemakers, CPAP machines, and
variety of biomedical sensors also rely on embedded systems.
- Automotive industry
● In the automotive industry, it can also be called “Automotive Embedded
Systems” which have been used for monitoring and regulating various kinds
of vehicle functions. Examples of this include Electronic Control Units (ECUs)
regulating engine performance, and Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) to
improve the safety of the car. This ensures improved functionality, safety
features, and advanced driver assistance, acting as the nerve-centers of
modern-day vehicles.
