1. Define bounded sequence of real numbers with an illustration.

(a) Prove that a nondecreasing sequence which is bounded above is
convergent.

(b) Let s1 = 2 and let sn + 1 = 2 · sn for n > 2. Prove that " sn ,3n = 1 is
convergent.

(c) Define a monotone sequence and show that " sn ,3n = 1 is monotone where
1 · 3 · 5 ... · (2n – 1)

(a) Let " sn ,3n = 1 diverges to infinity and if "tn ,3n = 1 is bounded then prove that

converges, then prove that " sn ,3n = 1 is a Cauchy sequence.

Prove that if "tn ,3n = 1 is a Cauchy sequence, then so is " sn ,3n = 1 .

(a) Stat and prove the Leibnitz test for the convergence of an alternating
series.

(b) Classify the series 1 – 13 + 15 – 17 + .... as to divergent, conditionally


convergent, or absolutely convergent.
