What is an application letter?

A letter of application is a personal sales letter. The writer is selling her skills,
services and personality to her perspective employer. The letter should reveal the
true worth of the applicant with her sufficient assurance on the job applied for.

It must be carefully and thoughtfully written to create a favorable impression to the


employer for an interview.

Kinds of Application Letter

1. Solicited application is when the letter is answering an advertisement

Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English. Throughout my college years, I
was a consistent Dean’s Lister and maintained an average of 1.50. I was also an

communication and organization skills as well as the ability to adhere to deadlines

2. Unsolicited application is when the vacancy to a position is being informed by

the personality of the applicant
5. The beginning sentence creates the first impression to the reader, his purpose,
where he learned the vacancy and the summary statement of his qualification
6. The concluding statement suggest action for an interview at the employer’s
convenience

Resume are the pertinent information of the applicant that includes the
personal and professional background. The data is the complete picture of the
applicant’s profile not stated in the application letter.
