1. What is a Computer?
• A computer is a machine that can follow instructions to do different tasks.
• It helps us solve problems, play games, write, and communicate with others.
2. Parts of a Computer
There are several important parts of a computer:
• Monitor: The screen where you can see things like pictures, videos, and text.
• Keyboard: The set of keys that you press to type letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Mouse: A small device you use to click on things on the screen.
• CPU (Central Processing Unit): The brain of the computer that controls everything.
• Speakers: Used to hear sounds from the computer.
3. What Can You Do With a Computer?
• Type: You can write stories, letters, or assignments.
• Play games: Many fun and educational games are available on computers.
• Watch videos: You can watch videos and learn new things.
• Draw pictures: Use special programs like Paint to draw and color.
• Browse the internet: Find information, watch videos, and learn new things online.
4. Input and Output Devices
• Input Devices: These are devices that let you give instructions to the computer.
o Examples: Keyboard, Mouse, Microphone.
• Output Devices: These are devices that let the computer show you information.
o Examples: Monitor, Speakers, Printer.
5. How Does a Computer Work?
• A computer takes input (information) from you, processes it, and gives you an output (result).
o Example: You type on the keyboard (input), the CPU processes it, and the words appear
on the monitor (output).
6. Types of Computers
• Desktop Computer: A computer that stays in one place, often used at home, school, or work.
• Laptop: A smaller, portable computer that you can carry with you.
• Tablet: A touch-screen computer, smaller than a laptop and easy to use.
7. Basic Computer Operations
• Turning on/off: Press the power button to turn the computer on or off.
• Using the mouse: Move the mouse to move the pointer on the screen. Click to select things.
• Typing: Use the keyboard to type letters, numbers, and special characters.
8. What is Software?
• Software is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do.
• There are two main types of software:
o System Software: This helps the computer run (e.g., Windows, macOS).
o Application Software: These are programs we use for specific tasks (e.g., Word, Paint,
Games).
9. Internet Basics
• The internet connects computers all over the world.
• You can use the internet to:
o Search for information using search engines like Google.
o Watch educational videos.
o Play games and learn from websites.
10. How to Stay Safe on Computers
• Use strong passwords to protect your information.
• Don’t talk to strangers online.
• Ask an adult for help if something on the computer or internet looks confusing or unsafe.
