QUALITY CONTROL PLAN

BLOCK WORK, MORTAR AND LINTEL BEAMS
QCP no.5

1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that quality of works is achieved, and required
inspections and tests are carried out as per the specification and quality plan.

2.0 SCOPE

The procedure applies to all on-site structure for BLOCK WORK, MORTAR AND LINTEL
BEAMS.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 The Project Manager has full authority and overall responsibility to manage,
supervise, and control the works in safe manner.
5.2 The Construction Manager is responsible for ensuring that all the works are carried
out as per the specifications, drawings/shop drawings, inspection and test plan and
method statement.
5.3 The Site Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the whole work is executed
according to the specification and approved method statement.
5.4 The QA/QC Engineer is responsible for monitoring the works are in fulfillment with
the specified requirements that all quality records related to the works are complete.
5.5 The QC Inspector is responsible for monitoring the work and ensures that the work
shall be carried out within the specifications requirements, carry out all the inspections
with the company representatives.

5.6 The HSE Engineer is responsible for supervising the works to ensure full compliance
with HSE requirements and procedures.
5.7 ITL is responsible for sampling and testing upon request and in accordance with
project specifications.
5.8 Surveyor is responsible for setting out and levels as per approved shop drawings.

6.0 PROCEDURAL STEP FOR BLOCK WORK

6.0.1 QC engineer shall ensure that all testing related to blocks, cement, sand and water are
carried-out. The required control documents are available and have been distributed
to the concerned personnel, and visual inspections of all activities which are involved
in the block work.

6.0.2 Block work shall be carried out under the supervision of Engineers, Foreman. The
masons and labors will be involved in the installation of block works.

6.0.3 Surveyor will maintain the required plumb, levels and layout.

6.0.4 Curing will be maintained for 3 days 3 - times per day.

6.0.5 All necessary tests for masonry blocks motor will be done at site.

6.0.6 Frequency of sampling and testing will be maintained and report will be submitted to
the COMPANY.

6.1 PROCEDURES FOR MORTAR FOR BLOCK WORK

6.1.1 QC engineer shall ensure that all required control documents are available and have
been distributed to the concerned personnel, and visual inspections of all activities
which are involved in mortar work.

6.1.2 Masonry mortar is produce by mixing approved Portland cement water and Ras Al
Khaima sand (Ratio being one part cement :4 parts sand unless otherwise specified)
conforming to project specifications as referred to in method statement. The proposed
mix design for mortar I part Portland cement- 4 parts 3/16 black ( Ras Al Khaima )
sand, and the water cement ratio will be maintained between 0.40 to 0.45 max unless
otherwise specified . By use of mechanical mixer.

6.1.3 The sand, cement and water will be measured in purpose made measuring / gauge
boxes.

6.1.4 Material shall be stored in dry area adjacent to the work area.

6.1.5 Mechanical mixer and transporting dumper shall be kept clean all the times.

6.1.6 Only material sufficient for use within the required times span and use as quickly as
possible shall be mixed.

6.1.7 Mixed mortar will not be tempered with water.

6.1.8 All necessary tests for mortar will be done at site.

6.1.9 Test reports will be submitted after the completion of 7 and 28 days test.

6.2 PROCEDURE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF LINTEL BEAMS:

6.2.1 QC Engineer shall ensure that the concrete used in casting the precast lintel meets all
the specified requirements and samples / cubes have been casted.

6.2.2 The opening sizes and the locations shall match the approved drawings.

6.2.3 The Site Engineer shall ensure that the top course is constructed using solid blocks.

6.2.4 Barricade the erection area to ensure safety from falling objects.

6.2.5 All workers engaged on this activity shall wear safety harness and use proper tools.

6.2.6 Furthermore, all workers shall attend safety training pertaining to hazards specific to
this activity held by the HSE Officer.

6.2.7 After placing the precast lintel, the bottom level shall be checked using the level
markings fixed by the Surveyor.

6.2.8 A minimum of 200mm end bearing shall be provided on each side.

6.2.9 Only trained scaffolders shall be engaged for the erection of scaffolding.

6.2.10 All safety precautions as required by the Risk Assessment study shall be
implemented prior to starting work.

Material Delivery Check the delivery note and confirm that block is
received from approved manufacturer.
Check the quality of block.(Curing time is finished

Confirm the compressive strength of block supplied
is as specified. (Random Sampling)
Check blocks to be wetted in water prior to use.
Blocks Installation and Check the lay out, dimension and diagonal.

Check joint widths shall be equal for all courses

Check wall ties, strap anchors, metal lath etc

Check the walls that are to be plastered are raked out
to depth of 12mm to form a key.
Check the vertical alignment with plumb bob.
Check the horizontal alignment with Aluminum

Mortar mix Check the mix proportion of mortar (1:4)
Check the mixed mortar is used within one and half
hour.
Check measuring boxes and mould for mixing.
MEP works Check MEP opening/inserts are provided.
Wall Openings Check the openings are left in accordance with the
shop drawing.
Curing Check proper curing shall be maintained for 3 days
3 times per day
