Application for a Permit to use Remotely Piloted Aircraft (Drones) on Harbour

Trust Land
Operating a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) on Sydney Harbour Federation Trust (Harbour Trust) land is
prohibited without a permit under section 29(3) of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Regulations 2021
(Harbour Trust Regulations) (Cth). This form is to be used to apply for a Drone Permit and conditions under
sections 9 and 10 of the Harbour Trust Regulations. You can access the legislation at www.austlii.edu.au.
Most Harbour Trust sites are within or close to controlled or non-controlled aerodromes or restricted airspace.
Before submitting your application, visit the CASA Drone Rules website to check the location of nearby
aerodromes and helicopter landing sites.
To apply for a permit, please complete this application form and submit it, and relevant supporting documents,
to the Harbour Trust.

About the Harbour Trust

The Harbour Trust is a self-funding Commonwealth Government agency responsible for the management of a
number of sites around Sydney Harbour including Cockatoo Island, Headland Park (Mosman), North Head
Sanctuary (Manly), Woolwich Dock and Parklands, Sub Base Platypus (North Sydney), Marine Biological Station
(Watsons Bay), Macquarie Lightstation (Vaucluse) and Snapper Island.

How to Lodge your Application

1. Print this form, or save it to your computer before completing it electronically.
2. Ensure all sections of the form have been completed and are correct.
3. Once complete, sign the declaration and print and scan the form.
4. Return the relevant form/s to the Harbour Trust by email or post.
Fees apply in relation to filming and commercial activities on Harbour Trust land.
Only applications for the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft on Harbour Trust land that also involve an approved
commercial activity or filming application on Harbour Trust land, or other written agreement with the Harbour
Trust, will be considered.
Allow 10 working days for the Harbour Trust to process your application.
PLEASE NOTE: This permit relates only to the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft over land managed by the Harbour
Trust. Separate approval must be obtained from other land owners or government agencies if use over other
land is proposed.

it can approve your application to use a Remotely Piloted Aircraft on land it manages.

it:
 Is necessary to provide you with a service that you have requested,
 Is required or authorised by law, and/or
 Will prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to somebody’s health.
Your information is stored securely on the Harbour Trust’s record management systems and archives for as long as
we reasonably need to keep it or are required to do so by law.
The Harbour Trust complies with the Australian Privacy principles under the Privacy Act 1988. More information on

 I apply for approval to use a Remotely Piloted Aircraft as described in this application. I declare that all
information in the application and checklist is to the best of my knowledge, true and correct. NOTE: It is an
offence under the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) to knowingly make a false or misleading statement in, or in
connection with, this application, or any document lodged with this application.
 I also understand that if the information is incomplete, the application will not be registered and may be
delayed or rejected or more information may be requested.
 I acknowledge that if the information provided is misleading, any approval granted may be void.
 I acknowledge that the Harbour Trust will assess this application on its merits in accordance with the Sydney
Harbour Federation Trust Act 2001 and Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Regulations 2021 (Cth) and the
Harbour Trust’s Plans and Policies. Approval of this application is at the Harbour Trust’s absolute discretion.
