WHP04-Q1

The crank OA rotates in the vertical plane with

a constant clockwise angular velocity ω0 of 4.5
rad/s. For the position where OA is horizontal,
find the angular acceleration (magnitude and
direction) of link AB and the force acting on the
light roller B of the slender bar AB. The mass
of the uniform bar AB is 10 kg. Neglect all
frictional forces.

Answer: (a) αAB = 12 rad/s2 CCW;

(b) FB = 36.3833 N

WHP04-Q2

The spring is uncompressed when the uniform

slender bar AB is in the vertical position Initial position of the
shown. Bar AB with a mass of 50 kg and a bar AB when it is
length of 1 m is released from rest in the released from rest
position where the bar has been rotated 30°
clockwise from the position shown. This initial
k = 12 kN/m
position of the bar AB is illustrated using the
dashed line in the figure. Neglect any sag of
30°
the spring as well as the spring mass.
(a) Determine the initial angular
acceleration of the bar when it is just
released from rest.
(b) Find the angular velocity of the bar
when it reaches the vertical position.

Answers: (a) α = 198.951 rad/s2

(b) ω2 = 10 rad/s
