SIMPLE PAST/PAST SIMPLE
TENSE
1. My surname was Silva, now it’s Oliveira.
2. I was Brazilian, now I’m Italian.
3. I was 13 (years old) when my father died.
4. I was married when I was 20. Now, I’m divorced.
5. My (cell) phone number was …., but now it’s …
6. My email address was …, now it’s...
7. I studied High School at Ifes.
8. I was a student when I was 17; now I’m a teacher.
9. I worked at a bank in the 80’s.
10. I lived in Brazil in 1992. Now I live in France.
SIMPLE PAST
O Simple Past é o tempo verbal que
utilizamos para nos referir a um
passado:
a) Concluído em um tempo determinado.
I lived in New York last year.

b) Concluído, mencionando sua duração.
I lived in New York for 5 years.
c) Que expressa um fato ou hábito finalizado.
I lived in New York when I was a child.
ADVERBS OF TIME(MARCADORES
TEMPORAIS)
YESTERDAY = ONTEM;
LAST WEEK = SEMANA PASSADA;
LAST YEAR = ANO PASSADO;
LAST MONTH = MÊS PASSADO;
THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY=ANTEONTEM;
TWO DAYS AGO:A DOIS DIAS ATRÁS. B
Ex:
Jéssica went to the party last night.
I read that book last month.
Marcelo and Paulo didn’t come here yesterday.
REGULAR VERBS
“Os verbos regulares são aqueles que, quando usados
para expressar as situações que aconteceram no
passado, possuem a terminação -ED.”
Ex:
I walked to the park yesterday.
She talked to her friend on the phone.
We studied yesterday.
Carla liked the movie.
Matheo loved the pie.
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES
Subject + past simple + object
1. I finished work, walked to the beach and met my friends.
2. I lived in Italy for five years.
3. I was in France in June.

NEGATIVE SENTENCES
Subject + did not + base form of verb + object
1. I didn’t play football yesterday.
2. They didn’t go to the theater last month.
3. She didn’t arrive on time this morning.
QUESTIONS:
Did + subject + base form of verb + object?

1. Did you play football yesterday?


2. Did they lose the match?
3. Did he clean his home last weekend?
RULES
IRREGULAR VERBS
“Os verbos irregulares não seguem um padrão quando
usados no passado. Neste caso, os verbos são escritos
de modo diferente e NÃO apresentam a terminação –ED.”

Ex:
I am sorry I was late last night.
She wrote a letter to him this morning.
He drove to the gas station yesterday.
You proved your point.

SIMPLE PRESENT
O presente simples(Simple Present/Present
Simple) é utilizado basicamente para
expressar hábitos e fatos gerais, ações
repetidas ou situações, emoções e
rotina. A B
My mother wakes up at 7
o’clock and goes to work.
She tries to do a good work as
a Vet.
The bus does not arrive at 11
AM, it arrives at 11 PM.
He does not need help now.
RULES
No presente simples, a maioria dos verbos
regulares usa a forma raiz, exceto na
terceira pessoa do singular (que termina
em -S).

I: I go to the gym.
You: You go to the gym.
He/she/it goes to the gym. (Note the es.)
We: We go to the gym.
You: You go to the gym.
They: They go to the gym.
RULES
Verbos terminados em -O, -Z, -SS, -CH, -SH, -X
É preciso acrescentar -ES no final do verbo.

Verbos terminados em -Y precedido de consoante
Retira-se o -Y e acrescenta-se -IES

Acrescenta-se somente o -S.

NEGATIVE SENTENCES
Subject + auxiliar verb (do ou does) + not + present
simple + object
1. Jim doesn't work on Fridays.
2. My friends don't usually leave so early.
3. I do not want to go with you!
QUESTIONS:
Auxiliar verb (do ou does) + subject + present simple +
object
1. Do you surf the Internet every day?
2. Does Jonathan always turn off the lights?

SIMPLE PRESENT
The simple future is a verb tense that’s
used to talk about things that haven’t
happened yet.
Use the simple future to talk about an
action or condition that will begin and

RULES
Will: para falar sobre nossas intenções futuras.

Be Going to: se referir a ações futuras que já


têm um planejamento, que já estão mais “certas”
para acontecerem, pode usar a forma “going to”.
EXAMPLES
I will live in another city.
I will study at a great university.
I will be an excellent student.
I will be a good engineer.
I am going to visit my grandparents tomorrow.
She is going to sing at the party.
They are going to travel to New York next week.
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES (WILL)
Sujeito + will + verbo + complemento.
1. I will travel do Europe.
2. He will help us later.
3. We will get married in September.
4. They will cook dinner.
NEGATIVE SENTENCES (WILL)
Sujeito + will + not + verbo + complemento.
1. I will not go.
2. You will not be late.
3. She will not get the job.
4. He will not pass the exam.
QUESTION SENTENCES (WILL)
Will + Sujeito + verbo + complemento.
1. Will I travel to Europe?
2. Will he help us later?
3. Will we get married in September?

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES (BE GOING TO)
Sujeito + to be + going to + verbo principal + complemento.
1. I am going to check for some new ideas for my
assignment.
2. We are going to find another way to do it.
3. He is going to meet his friend at the park.
NEGATIVE SENTENCES (GOING TO)
Sujeito + to be + not + going to + verbo principal + complemento.
1. We are not going to check for some new ideas
for our assignment.
2. I am not going to find another way to do it.
3. I am not going to meet my friend at the park.
QUESTIONS (GOING TO)
To be + sujeito + going to + verbo principal + complemento?

1. Are you going to sing?
