The negative impact of Television.

Television became invented and available by the 1920s. Television is a medium of

telecommunication used in the transmission of pictures that are in motion. Television has been

used as a medium for sports, entertainment, news and also showing adverts or advertising. To

spread information to people the television has been used. Comparing the television to the radio,

people tend to bear with the television since it offers a sense of reality that is showing the

pictures. Remarkable results have been offered by the television to the human lives like

educational advantages where some programs are shown in the television that are important to

both kids and adults, strengthening a family bond since it said that watching television as a

family is like spending time with the family hence emotionally the bond between family

members is strengthened (Domirani et al.).

However, with the positive impacts brought by television, they are some negative impact

associated with the television. Most of these impacts are related to children since a survey

conducted stated that children are the most likely participants to stay watching television for a

long period compared to adults. Precious time has been stolen by the television, for children

since they spend too much time on the television. Children or also individuals who spend too

much time on television miss out on many life opportunities. The individuals and children are

likely not to interact with other individuals that may be so productive to them. Too much spend

time on the television as stated means less time for interaction with other people, this means the

individuals are not able to interact with others because of poor socializing skills and lack of

language. Focus for students is killed by the television, the people who stay on the television for

more than 2 hours are likely to lose focus in their learning environment like the classroom and

also in sporting activities that may lead to poor performance in both the class and field likely to

be diagnosed with a condition called Attention-Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD). Also,

television is known to kill the children’s creativity and imagination, children who are known to

spend time on television have poor creativity and are known not to develop strong imagination as

they cannot come up with or generate new ideas.

Healthy wise it is documented that lack of physical exercise by an individual will cause

obesity. Individuals who spend most of their time on television don’t have time to do physical

activity hence they develop obesity. Development of the eye and heart risks come about from

television (Harlap). People who watch television so much are usually at a high risk of developing

lazy eye risks and this causes reduced vision that cannot be corrected with the use of glasses or

lenses also without exercising and poor diet manners this will lead to heart disorders for the

individual. Individuals who spend too much time on the television will not be productive since

they are not able to challenge themselves academically, socially, or emotionally since most of

their time is occupied by the television. It is also stated that negative behavior is promoted by

too much television in kids like violence and them being aggressive since children will

sometimes interact with inappropriate shows that will alter their behaviors. As most of the shows

sometimes on television are exaggerated this may affect people’s self-image and make them feel

less.

Television being a means to transmit information has also impacted society differently. It

has impacted society in both a positive way and also a negative way. In the above essay, we have

only discussed the negative impacts brought by television.
