QUESTION ONE:
Institutions of higher learning around the world are grappling with various challenges. These
challenges include being able to integrate e-learning in their operations. E-learning has become
popular due to the nature of some students who want study courses off campus. It is a growing
niche that most Universities cannot ignore. The East African University is considering
developing an e-learning platform. They have decided to engage their IT department to develop a
new mobile application that can integrate learning via mobile devices. This app will improve on
what is currently being offered in the market. Answer the following;

a) Explain any four usability evaluation methods that could be used in such a system

(8 marks)

b) State and explain any 3 optical illusions that should be considered (6 marks)

c) Describe any 4 trends in HCI that would be considered (8 marks)

d) Explain any 4 reasons why you would use questionnaires rather than interviews in this
type of system when gathering user requirements (8 marks)
QUESTION TWO
Cloud computing platforms have become very popular with organizations due to their flexibility.
Most organizations are adopting cloud computing platforms in carrying out their tasks. The
Ministry of Health is considering developing a system that is based on Cloud computing
platforms in sharing information with various Hospitals in the country. This is for sharing and
storage of data in managing health functions in the country. Answer the following;

a) Explain any 3 reasons why they would use form filling user interfaces in their system
(6 marks)

b) State and explain 3 benefits of User Centered design in this type of system (6 marks)

c) Describe any 4 types of menus that could be used (8 marks)

QUESTION THREE
Umma University has introduced an online school fees payment platform which is integrated to a
mobile application. As an expert in Human Computer Interactions and using clear illustrative
scenarios,
a) State and explain five usability principles that should be considered during the design and
development of the human computer interface. (10 marks)
b) Explain any five characteristics of mobile computing in HCI that should be considered
(10 marks)

XYZ is an international software company. With the changing technological environment, they
have to come up with new methods of working and doing business with their clients. Their
employees have come up with an innovative product whereby the have a mobile application
which they have made that can help companies automate their Finance and Human Resource
operations remotely while cutting on costs. This new innovation will enhance efficiency in
operations. Answer the following;
