Theatre - Artistic Intention and Planning Document - Criteria B and C
You will evaluate your own process depending on the following questions.
1. Mention your process as an artist? How did it start ? What was the trigger of your
character and learning the process
My process as an artist started with my research on newspaper theater, Augusto Boal and
theater of the oppressed. Through my research I learned what the theater of the oppressed
actually means and what it represents. Then I started researching different types of news, with
topics surrounding terrorism, domestic violence, war, etc. Then together we decided to choose a
topic that was relatable to our own lives which was terrorism and bullying in the school. We
answered questions on the topic, made characters and created and performed a newspaper
theater which included a narration, headline and freeze picture. This process helped me
understand exactly why newspaper theater was created and how it can be used as a powerful
source of awareness. It should not be made fun of and needs to be taken seriously as it is an
important source of awareness.
2. What did you do after selecting your script and character? How has your process
developed over time?
Once our script and characters were finalized, we studied newspaper articles to gain a
better understanding. We then devised the drama sequence and practiced it. Following
this, we conducted a mock performance, incorporated the feedback received, and made
modifications to our script. Subsequently, we rehearsed and presented our final drama to
another group, gathering their perspectives on our message. Lastly, we delivered our
final presentation.
