Topic: Illustrating Properties of Addition
Content Standard:
The learners are expected to ....
 illustrate how the properties of addition are used through concrete materials and pictorial
representations.

 Identify which property is being used in math problem.

Transfer Goals: Students on their own and in the long run will be able to:
 learn how to add mentally, it helps them to solve math problems faster, like when counting their
money or finding the total number of objects.

STAGES ACTIVITIES
(Day 1)
MOTIVATION
EXPLORE  Ask the learners about the things they do before going to school.
 After listening to their answers, say, “The order of events may differ for
every one of you. You can either first brush your teeth or take a bath.
Eventually, you will be ready to go to school. This is similar to our lesson
for today.”
(Day 1)
 Present the illustrations and addition sentence
FIRM-UP
 Explain the Commutative property.
 Give an example.
 Present the addition sentence with a missing number.
 Ask the learners to give the missing number in each example.

(Day 2)
 Explain the Associative Property of Addition.
 Present the illustration to the class.
 Give an example.
 Ask the learners to write the addition sentence for the illustration.
 Ask a learner to think of 3 numbers that make the sum of 15 and write it on the
board.
 Present the addition sentence with a missing number.
(Day 3)
 Present the illustration to the class and ask them to write the addition sentence
for it.
 Explain the Identity Property of Addition.
 Give an example.
 Ask the learners to write the addition sentence for the example.
 Ask the class to think of a number sentence to show the identity property of
addition.
 Next, present the addition sentence with a missing number.
