1. The following are the marks of 50 students obtained in an examination.

i. Find class limits for six classes starting from mark 12.
ii. Construct a frequency table.
iii. Draw a histogram.

2. Each of the 10 workers, P, Q, …, Y, was required to complete two tasks, A and B.


The supervisor observed the workers and gave them a score for the quality of their
work on each task, where higher scores indicate better quality work. These scores are
shown in the following table.

i. CA Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the scores on tasks A and B.
ii. Comment on worker T's performance on the two tasks.
iii. Compare the tasks A and B using the quality scores of the ten workers.

3. The mean age of a combined group of male and female workers is 38 years. If the
mean age of the group of male workers is 40 and that of the group of female workers is
35, find out the percentage of male workers and female workers in the combined group.

4. Mean monthly salary paid to all employees in a company is Rs.43500. Mean monthly
salaries paid to male employees is Rs.53000. If the percentage of the male employees is
65, what is the mean monthly salary of the female employees?

5. Problem with a telephone line that prevent a customer from receiving or making calls are
distressing to both customers and the telephone company. The following data represent
samples of 10 problems reported to two different offices of a telephone company and the
time to clear these problems (in minutes) from the customers’ line.

i. Compute the mean and median for two offices. In which office the average time is
high?
ii. Compute the standard deviation and coefficient of variance for two offices. In
which office the variability of the time is high?
iii. Less than to what time that 75% of the problems in each office has been cleared?

6. Out of 70 people working in an assembly plant, 40 are male workers. The number
of pieces assembled in the last month by each male worker is given below.

It is also known that the number of pieces assembled by the female workers is 2535 and
their sum of squares is 214,255.

i. Calculate the mean and the standard deviation of the total number of pieces
assembled.
ii. Using the mean, compare the performance of the male and female workers.
iii. Are the male workers more consistent in terms of performance than
female workers??

7. Describe the shape of the distribution of data shown in the following table.
