3.MOTIVATION

Start with a relatable scenario:

“Imagine you have 3 apples and your
friend gives you 2 more. How many
apples do you have now?”

Explain that today’s lesson will show

how addition helps us find out the
total when we combine numbers.

B ACTIVITY

Introduce the concept of addition:

Explain that addition means putting
numbers together. Write an example
on the board: 3 + 2 = 5.

Use counters or small objects to

visually demonstrate addition: Show
3 counters and then add 2 more,
counting the total.

Introduce adding two-digit numbers

without regrouping, like 21 + 13.
Demonstrate it step-by-step on the
board.

Have students practice with similar

examples using counters or
drawings.
C ANALYSIS

Ask students: “Why is it useful to add

numbers together?”
Discuss how addition helps us find
out the total when combining things,
such as toys, candies, or books.

Give a real-life example, like adding

up the number of pencils in two
pencil boxes.

D ABSTRACTION

Show how addition can be done on

paper. Write a few problems on the
board (e.g., 15 + 23, 42 + 11) and
guide students through solving them.

Explain the pattern of addition:

adding tens and then ones
separately, if necessary.

E. APPLICATION

Hand out worksheets with basic

addition problems and simple word
problems.
Example word problem: “Liam has
25 stickers and gets 17 more. How
many stickers does Liam have now?”

IV EVALUATION
Review students’ worksheets and
check for understanding.
