Multiplication – Word problems

Problem 1

There are 451 cows in a farm. Each cow produces 6 litres of milk
every day. How much litres of milk is produced in the farm on a
single day?

Total no. of cows in the farm = 451

Milk given by each cow = 6 litres

Milk produced in the farm on a single day = 3


451 x 6

2706 litres of milk is produced in the farm


on a single day.

Problem 2

There are 272 cupcakes in a box. If Sam has 4 boxes, how many
cupcakes he has in all?

No. of cupcakes in a box = 272

No of boxes Sam has =4

Total no of cupcakes Sam has = 272 x 4


Sam has 1088 cupcakes in all.

Practice problems

1. Sharad’s family consumes 3 litres of milk daily. How much will


they consume in a leap year?

2. A fruit merchant sells 125 kg of fruits every day. How muchdoes


he sell in a week if Sunday is Holiday?

3. The table shows the amount of money Sonia, and her friend spend
on shopping during their trips.
Sonia ₹ 2345 per day
Raghav ₹ 2,672 per day
i.How much money did Sonia spend for three days?
ii.How much money did Raghav spend for five days?
iii.Who spent more money and how much?
