Reliability
It refers to the consistency and dependability of a source of information.
Consider the source's track record. Has it consistently provided accurate information in the
past?
Assess whether the information is up-to-date. In some cases, outdated information can be
misleading or irrelevant.
Investigate the methodology used to gather and present information. Are there clear research
methods, citations, or references provided?
Check if the source has a reputation for fact-checking and quality control. Established news
organizations, for instance, often have rigorous editorial standards.
Credibility
It relates to the trustworthiness and believability of a source.
To gauge credibility:
Examine the author or organization's qualifications and expertise on the subject matter. Are
they known experts in the field?
Look for evidence of bias or conflicts of interest. Transparent and impartial reporting is a
hallmark of credible sources.
Evaluate whether the source provides citations, references, or sources of information. This
helps establish the credibility of their claims.
Consider the publication or platform itself. Reputable newspapers, journals, and academic
institutions often have higher credibility than personal blogs or anonymous websites.
Bias
It refers to a systematic preference for one perspective or point of view over others.
Recognizing overt bias, such as strong language, emotional appeals, or one-sided reporting.
