What is an Analysis?
Analysis is the process of an in-depth
examination, evaluation, and investigation
into the significance of a literary piece, a
moment in history, a work of art, a historic
figure, or any other relevant, complex
topic. Analysis occurs when a person
examines something for the "why" or the
"how" questions, not the "who" or "when"
perspectives. When analyzing something,
a person will focus on specific pieces of
information, examining how the smaller,
separate points relate to and build up the
larger piece and its relevance to a topic.

 ANALYTICAL ESSAY

This type of essay analyses,

interprets, or examines an artwork, a film,
a song, a composition, or a picture.
An analytical essay is an essay that
meticulously and methodically examines a
single topic to draw conclusions or prove
theories.
An analytical essay means you will
need to present some type of argument, or
claim, about what you are analyzing. An
analytical essay is not a summary.
Analytical essays usually concentrate on
how the piece was written – for example
how certain themes present themselves in
a story.
It is usually written in four parts:
a) Introduction – topic
b) textual analysis- analysis of the
text.
c) personal response – must show
criticality.
d. Conclusion- connection between
your argument and the text.

What does Analytical means?

 How and why?

 Pick it to pieces to explain and
interpret.
 Discuss central ideas/themes
 Pieces-techniques
 Effect on audience

Example:
- If you are to analyze a movie.

- So what you’re going to do is to

analyze the movie. What is the
meaning of that movie? Why does
the author create this movie? And
what techniques did the author
used.
-

- Another example:
- If you analyze a painting.
- What message does the painter
wants to convey?
- What are the techniques that the
painter use in his painting?

- Or you can also analyze “Why do

mosquito mostly attacks at night?”

- It answers the question How and

Why?

- So that is also analyzing.

- So based on the given example,

you are analyzing the topic.

In writing analytical essay, you should

always remember to:

• Make an outline to help you

organize your thoughts.
• Use present tense
• Avoid slang, colloquial language,
and contradictions.
• Critically respond to what you
understood from the text. It’s
effect on you is very important.
