Biographical Sketch

A biographicaol sketch or a bio-sketch is a short and crisp summary of the


life and works of a renowned person. It is usually written in a paragraph in
about 80 words and contains facutal details about the person.

Q.1 Read the notes given below and write a short bio-sketch
of Kalpana Chawla

Birth Name: kalpana


Place & date of birth: karnal, 17th march 1962
Parents: father- Banarasi lal chawla, mother- Sanjyothi chawla
Education: astronaut engineering, masters of science in
Aerospace Engineering
Work done: First female to fly on space shuttle
Awards: congressional space medal, NASA Space flight medal,
NASA distinguished service medal
Death: 01 February 2003

ANSWER:-

Kalpana Chawla was born on 17th March 1962 at Karnal.Haryana.


Her father was Banarasilal Chawla and mother was Sanjyothi
Chawla. Kalpana was youngest of 4 children. She completed
Aeronautical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, India.
Later she completed Masters of Science degree in Aerospace
Engineering. Kalpana Chawla was first Indian born female to fly in
the space. She became a inspiring woman for millions of females
in India by becoming first woman to become astronaut engineer.
Kalpana Chawla was awarded with Congressional space, NASA
Space flight medal, NASA distinguished service medal. She was
assigned many special missions. The Space shuttle Columbia
disaster, where Kalpana Chawla died with her crew members on
1st February 2003

bio-sketch of Mahatama Gandhi.

Oct 2, 1869 : Born at Porbanadar, to Karamchand and Putlibai

1888-1893 : Completed studies in England.


Went to South Africa to practice law. Suffered discrimination there.
Started nonviolent civil disobedience for civil rights of the Indian
community.

1914-1915 : Left South Africa and came back to India.

1915-1947 : Worked very hard through Satyagraha, civil disobedience,


fasts, marches, movements and jail sentences to free India from the
British.

Jan 30, 1948 : He was shot dead by Nathuram Godse at Birla House.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on Oct 2, 1869, to Karamchand


and Putlibai at Porbandar. After completing his studies in
England, he went to South Africa. When he suffered
discrimination, he started civil disobedience for civil rights
of the Indian community. Around 1915, he came back to
India. He started Satyagraha, civil disobedience, fasts,
marches, movements and was sentenced many times. His
efforts helped India gain freedom from the British. In
1948, a mad man named Nathuram Godse assassinated
him outside Birla House.
