INTRODUCTION

The performance specifications for LIN SCAN CLP In-Line Inspection (ILI)
services comply with the Pipelines Operators Forum document (version 2016,
Specifications and requirements for intelligent pig inspection of pipelines) with
regards to the format of tables and the terminology used.

Since this type of inspection is taken under dynamic conditions, the


performance specifications are depending on the conditions under which the
inspection pig has travelled in the pipeline. The performance specifications are
met when the inspection pig has travelled within the limits of the running
conditions as per the Tool Data Sheet.

If the inspection pig has exceeded the limits as specified in the LIN SCAN Tool
Data Sheet, the inspection report will identify these locations, the deviation
levels as well as effect on the performance specifications, in case the
operational conditions of the pipeline cannot be altered to meet to tool running
specifications.

Explanatory notes:

 Pipelines are subject to a large variety of mechanical and operational


conditions.
 LIN SCAN ILI tools comply with general pipeline conditions to which ILI
are subjected to in the LIN SCAN Tool Data Sheets in terms of pressure,
temperature and flow for the operational aspects and wall thickness, un-
barred tees and bend radii.
 Many pipelines however have extraordinary conditions for which it is
required to specially configure the ILI tool such that the optimal
inspection results can be obtained.
 In those cases, a specific Run Data Sheet is issued for that particular
pipeline with specific limitations.
 For example, this may be due to:
o extreme high wall thickness in combination with high velocity
o a large range of wall thicknesses in combination with low gas
pressures
o Short radius bends (back to back) in combination with none
standard through conduit gate valves with bottom cavity
o Etc. etc.
It is encouraged to ask LIN SCAN for explanatory information if any of the
above requires deeper understanding of these highly specialized ILI services.

Improvement on individual specifications may be possible on specific request.

*This accuracy can be improved upon to “meters accuracy” when markers are used and/or when DGPS
reference measurements can be made perhaps in combination with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) on
board of the inspection pig.
