Cell

Transport
Mechanism
Cell Membrane

A barrier around of a
cell,controls enters and
exits the cell
Phospholipid Bilayer
Means two layers of Lipids

Head(Polar)
Polar molecules have
unequal sharing of electrons
among atoms
Tail(Non-Polar)
Non-polar molecules have
equal sharing of electrons
among atoms
3 TYPES OF CELL
TRANSPORT

PASSIVE TRANSPORT
ACTIVE TRANSPORT
BULK TRANSPORT
Passive Transport
A cell doesn't use energy
(Moves with the flow)

Molecules moves from high

concentration to low concentration
DIFFUSION
THERE ARE 2 TYPES
OF DIFFUSION

FACILITATED
SIMPLE DIFFUSION
DIFFUSION
DIFFUSION
OSMOSIS
•Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a selectively
permeable membrane like the cell membrane

Water diffuses across a membrane from an area of high

concentration to an area of low concentration.
DIFFUSION
OSMOSIS
DIFFUSION
DIFFUSION /SIMPLE
DIFFUSION

the process by which molecules, atoms, or

ions diffuse through a semipermeable
membrane down their concentration
gradient without the assistance of
transporter proteins.
FACILITATED DIFFUSION
FACILITATED
DIFFUSION

a type of diffusion in which the molecules

move from the region of higher
concentration to the region of lower
concentration assisted by a carrier.
FACILITATED DIFFUSION

Proteins in the cell membrane form

channels for large molecules to pass
through

Proteins that form channels (pores) are

called protein channels
FACILITATED DIFFUSION
Hypertonic Solutions: contain a high
concentration of solute relative to another
solution (e.g. the cell's cytoplasm). When a
cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, the
water diffuses out of the cell, causing the
cell to shrivel.
FACILITATED DIFFUSION
Hypotonic Solutions: contain a low
concentration of solute relative to another
solution (e.g. the cell's cytoplasm). When a
cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, the
water diffuses into the cell, causing the cell
to swell and possibly explode.
FACILITATED DIFFUSION
Active Transport
is an energy-driven process where
membrane proteins transport
molecules across cells
Happens when cell use
ATP(Adenosine
Triphosphate) to move
substance across the
membrane
ANALOGY
BULK TRANSPORT

When some substance that

cannot get through the
plasma membrane an any
other way are transported
with the help of (ATP) into or
out of the cell
BULK TRANSPORT
Types of Endocytosis
BULK TRANSPORT
ENDOCYTOSIS Bringing of substances into the
cell(Vesicle)
(IN/ENTER)

PHAGOCYTOSIS The cells take particular matter(cell

eating)

PINOCYTOSIS The cells takes only the fluid (cell

drinking)
BULK TRANSPORT

RECEPTOR- a form of endocytosis in which receptor

MEDIATED proteins on the cell surface are used to
ENDOCYTOSIS capture a specific target molecule
BULK TRANSPORT
EXOCYTOSIS
(OUT/EXIT)
Is the reverse direction of endocytosis

The material is discharge from the cell

It is also use in plant to export cell wall

materials
