TODD

Quartermaster - late 40’s, African American. Likely grew up in Baltimore. Unlicensed mariner.
Todd is a premiere sailor. He is a non-officer but stands watch. Well-liked, easy going, always
joking and having a good time.

Greg checks the forecast.

Greg: (reading) The National Hurricane Center.

Todd: What’d they say?

Greg: Doesn’t look pretty.

Todd: We on the outskirts. It look like we gettin’ close to that eye. We don’t like in there.
We like here. If that’s the eye. We like right here (chuckles).

Greg: Yeah. Captain’s gettin’ the data. When we get the latest here – and uh - evaluate
the situation.

Todd: Yeah that don’t, uh – that don’t look too good right there.

Greg: I’ll make a recommendation.

Todd: (chuckles)

Greg: I mean I – I mean, just threw it out there. He’ll make the decision. I – I mean I’ve
rode these ships through horrible storms. You gotta tie your # down. That’s it.

Todd: I don’t got nothin’ - The only thing that kinda scared me is that my, uhhh – DVDs
is on top of each other.

Greg: See, this here is my favorite coffee cup. It’s goin’ in the sock drawer.

Todd: I’m good and secured. I’m just worried about that.

Greg: I mean, I’m not scared to go through it. We’re stable.

Todd: I think it ain’t gunna be as bad as you think but you still gunna be prepared.

Greg: Remember in The Perfect Storm with that container ship rockin’ and rolling and
all?
Todd: Uh, I saw that but I don’t like watchin’ that. I saw it but when I seen it I did not like
that movie. (chuckles) Cause I’m on that thing, you know.

The Captain decides to issue the order to abandon ship.

Captain: Alright, let’s go ahead and ring it - ring the abandon ship. (in raised voice): Tell
‘em we’re goin’ in.

Sarah: Can I get my vest?

Captain: Yup. Bring mine up too and bring one for Todd.

Todd: I need ‘em too. (yells) Please!

Captain: Okay, buddy, relax. Go ‘head, Second Mate. Bow is down. Bow is down.

Todd: I got lanterns.

Captain: I got nothing. Do you think you can make it?

Todd: Yeah.

Captain: Sure, go ‘head.

Todd: Gotta get my wallet and medicine and stuff.

Captain (on walkie talkie): Alright, Chief Mate - Chief Mate.

(To Todd) Go ‘head, Todd.

Todd: Cap.

Captain: What? Come on, Todd. Gotta move. We gotta move. You gotta get up. You
gotta snap out of it - and we gotta get out.

Todd: Okay. Help me.

Captain: You gotta get to safety, Todd. (yells) Ya gotta get to safety, Todd!

Todd: Cap. (yells) Captain!

Captain: What?

Todd: Ya alright?

Captain: Yep.
Todd (yelling): Captain! Help me.

Captain: Todd? Don’t panic. Work your way up here.

Todd (yelling): I can’t!

Captain: Todd.

Todd (yelling): Help me!

Captain: You’re okay, Come on. (yells) Don’t freeze up, Todd! Come on!

Todd: Cap.

Captain (yelling): Hey! Don’t panic!

Todd (yells) I can’t.

Captain (loudly) Yes, you can.

Todd (yells) My feet are slipping! Goin’ down!

Captain (loudly): You’re not goin’ down. Come on.

Todd (yells): I need a ladder.

Captain (loudly): We don’t have a ladder, Todd.

Todd (loudly): A line.

Captain (loudly) I don’t have a line, Todd.

Todd: You gunna leave me.

Captain (loudly): I’m not leaving you. Let’s go!

Todd: (screams) Help, somebody, help me. (yells) You gunna help me?

Captain: I’m the only one here, Todd.

Todd (yelling): I can’t! (speaking loudly) I can’t. I’m a goner.

Captain (yelling): No, you’re not!

Todd (yelling) Just help me!
