Salt Water 4.90 4.78

Analysis
From the data, we can observe how different substances affected the size of the Orbeez:
- Distilled Water had the largest increase in the size of the Orbeez, showing an 846%
increase. This indicates that Orbeez absorb water very well when placed in pure water.
Since distilled water lacks any dissolved substances like salts or sugars, it allowed the
Orbeez to take in water through osmosis freely, resulting in maximum expansion.

- Gatorade caused a 70% increase in the size of the Orbeez, which is significant but much
less than distilled water. This suggests that the sugars and electrolytes present in Gatorade
may have somewhat limited the absorption of water by the Orbeez, though they were still
able to grow significantly.

- Salt Water resulted in a slight decrease in the size of the Orbeez, with a -2.45% decrease.
The presence of salt in the water likely created a hypertonic environment, where water left
the Orbeez due to osmosis, causing them to shrink slightly.

- Low Sodium Soy Salt caused a 27.05% decrease in the size of the Orbeez, indicating that
even with reduced sodium content, the soy salt solution still created a hypertonic
environment that drew water out of the Orbeez, leading to noticeable shrinkage.
Conclusion
The experiment clearly demonstrates that the ability of Orbeez to absorb water is
significantly influenced by the type of solution they are placed in. Orbeez expanded the most
in distilled water, suggesting that pure water with no solutes allows the greatest water
absorption through osmosis. Solutions with dissolved substances like salts (salt water, soy
salt) caused the Orbeez to shrink due to the hypertonic environment, where water moved
out of the Orbeez. Gatorade, with its mix of sugars and electrolytes, allowed some water
absorption, but not to the extent seen with distilled water.

This experiment highlights the effects of osmosis in different solutions and how the
concentration of solutes can impact the movement of water into or out of objects like
Orbeez.
