2. Introduction:
• A cylindrical or spherical vessel used to separate oil, gas and water from the total fluid stream
produced by a well. Separators can be either horizontal or vertical. Separators can be classified
into two-phase and three-phase separators (commonly called free-water knockout). The two-
phase type deals only with oil and gas, while the three-phase type handles oil, water and gas, this
type (RACO SEP.200-VS-102).

3. Reason for Inspection:

1) To determine the physical condition of the vessel and to determine the type, rate, and causes of
damage mechanisms and associated deterioration.
2) To determine the work necessary to restore a vessel to a condition suitable for safe operation at the
design conditions.
4. Inspection Register:

Report No. Recommendation

• Clean the inner surface from any liquids by opening the drain point in order To avoid
cracks in the surfaces.
• Clean the leakage area from the outside well and add a patch plate (40 cm x 30 cm as
per attached photo) with thickness}'2" Min. material spec. ASTM 516 -70 using a
suitable welding electrode e-7018-1, 2.5 dia. After Preheat the surface to 70°C to
100°e.
03/PET-49/2022 03/01/2022
• Intensive measurement of the separator wall thickness in an attempt to reach a
nearest estimate of the thickness at the repair area and arrange Suitable temporary
repairs if needed.
• During the temporary repair process, any weakly-thickened area to be temporarily
strengthened until the permanent repair is done
• Testing the repair area using Magnetic Particle inspection
The vessel shall be put out of service as soon as possible in order to perform the
316/PET-43/2021 03/01/2021
complete internal inspection to ensure the vessel reliability.
For assessment of second separators further inspection will be performed internally

after desludging and sweep blast to define the required repair.
153/PET.49/2017 09/07/2017 The vessel shall be put out of service for complete internal inspection

8. Recommendation:

~ Exterior vessel:
a) According to API 510 The fillet welded patch plate shall be removed and repair its location by
insert weld patch plate as following:-
• Shape: rectangular shape have a rounded corner (2in) radius (R) except when intersect
with circumference weld shall have right-angle.
• Thickness: not less than 20mm.
• Should have good fit-up and root pass (if the back weld is impossible).
b) Replace drain nozzle (N-5) 6" which include the clamp (See table of nozzles).

e) Apply Paint system for shell vessel.

~ Interior vessel:
a) Thickness of the (pits-sour water-hydrogen) corroded portions (internal) shall be restored by
deposited weld metal, thickness shall be not less than 19.00mm. (See table thicker.).
b) solution for shell and internal baffles plates due to exist patch on external separator
• Dismantles baffles plates for cleaningto increase efficiency of separator and checkshell of
separator under baffle (ifthe baffle in bad condition should be replace by new one)
• Any defect appear in shell of separator after dismantle the baffle should be repair by
deposited weld metal from 30'clock to 90'clock, thickness shall be not less than
19.00mm.
c) Re-weld internal instruments nozzles.
d) Re-welding longitudinal circumference of separator as possible
e) Re-weld internal drains nozzles.
f) Re-weld the internal ladder
g) Installing cathodic protection anode by corrosion.div.
h) Repair internal two ladder and fixed or replaced.
i) Repair and fixed mix extractor outlet gas (see pic. 28 at interior inspection)
j) Repair procedure (WPS, PREHEAT NDT AND HYDROTEST) as referred in ASME VIII, SECTION.IX.
k) Apply internal Paint system for shell vessel.

~ Piping system around RACO SEP.:

a) Shall be dismantle inlet line 12" for check two flanges and gasket.
b) All valves shall be dismantle for check and test by instrumentation div.
c) The two PSV shall be dismantle for inspection and calibration.
