REBUTTAL SPEECH
To our esteemed judges, dear moderator, respected guests, to my fellow
debaters, and to our audience, good morning. As we embark on this debate journey today, I am filled with pride and determination to champion the cause encapsulated in House Bill 7758, the Menstrual Leave Act. Before delving into the heart of our arguments, let me first address the weak of the opposition's case. Their reasons they have presented failed to discredit our strong arguments. (state their arguments, expose the weakness and refute each) Now, to further expose the unsubstantial and weak arguments of the negative side. Let me point out the fallacies committed by their speakers :
Their necessity speaker contends that menstrual leave is redundant due to
the existence of sick leave. However, this overlooks the unique challenges menstruators face and the necessity for tailored support. Meanwhile, their beneficiality speaker casts doubt on the benefits of menstrual leave without substantial evidence, failing to recognize its potential to enhance productivity and prioritize women's health. Finally, their practicability speaker raises concerns about negative impacts on businesses, yet fails to acknowledge the pragmatic solutions we propose. Now, let me illuminate our strongest points : Firstly, menstrual leave is a necessary intervention to address the unique health needs of menstruating individuals. By granting this leave, we acknowledge the importance of rest and self-care during menstruation, ultimately enhancing productivity and well-being. Secondly, the benefits of menstrual leave extend beyond individual health to economic prosperity. Healthy employees are more productive, and by supporting menstruators' health needs, we foster workplace equity and compliance with legal standards. Lastly, enacting the Menstrual Leave Act is not only practical but also imperative. It provides a legal framework for menstrual leave policies, ensuring consistency and fairness in the workplace. The two-day leave with full pay outlined in House Bill 7758 offers the necessary time for rest and recovery, promoting employee welfare and productivity. As Susan B. Anthony, a woman’s pioneer activist once proclaimed, "there shall never be another season of silence until women have the same rights as men have on this green earth." Today, we have the opportunity to heed her call and take a decisive step towards gender equality by enacting the Menstrual Leave Act. To DENY this legislation is to turn a blind eye to the struggles of menstruating individuals and perpetuate social injustice. Ladies and gentlemen, the time for action is now. Let us stand on the right side of history and pass House Bill 7758 into law, ensuring that the voices of women are heard and their rights upheld. Thank you.
