Outreach Initiatives and Immersion

Modern Institute for Education (MIE)
The Modern School Society has taken a significant step in the direction of educational advancement
by establishing the Modern Institute for Education (MIE), formerly known as the IRDSE (Institute for
Research and Development in School Education). Affiliated with the Modern School Society, MIE
aims to spearhead research, innovation, and collaboration in the field of education.
The rechristening of IRDSE to the Modern Institute for Education reflects the institution's renewed
commitment to contemporary educational practices, research, and development.
Ms. Abha Sadana, Former Principal of Modern School, ECNCR, has been appointed to lead the MIE
program. With a proven track record in educational research and development, her expertise will
play a pivotal role in guiding MIE towards its goals.
Prior to drawing up the action plan for MIE, Ms. Sadana collaborated with the Principal, Ms.
Meenakshi Sahni, over two meetings for brainstorming and learning about best practices at MSVV.
The Principal’s inputs were appreciated by Ms. Ambika Pant.

32
MIE's action plan is multifaceted, encompassing a range of initiatives aimed at elevating educational
standards and fostering innovative teaching and learning methods. The following key components
outline the action plan:
 MIE has organized a series of workshops for educators, addressing diverse topics such as
pedagogical innovation, technology integration, and student-centered learning approaches.
These workshops serve as platforms for knowledge exchange and skill enhancement. A
workshop on Understanding and Unfolding National Education Policy and National Curriculum
Framework for Foundational Stage was conducted for teachers teaching Nursery to Grade II on
July 1, 2023. 27 teachers of MSVV attended the same.
 Surveys and Data Collection: MIE has conducted comprehensive surveys to gather insights from
educators, students, and parents. An action research survey to investigate the Usage of AI tools
like ChatGPT in Schools was initiated for students of Grade XI. The aim was to assess the use of
AI tools in completing the homework assignments by Grade XI students and also to identify the
reasons that students have to use these tools. The survey would help teachers in imbibing
intrinsic knowledge about the prevalence of AI tools and ChatGPT in their classrooms. A
questionnaire to the effect was filled by teachers teaching English to Grade XI followed by
submission of assignments by 31 students on Today’s youth, an Instagram generation. Teachers
also shared highlights of group discussions held on the Knowledge and use of ChatGPT and what
could be the ethical implications of using the same. The data collected would help identify areas
of improvement and tailor research initiatives to address specific needs.
 Collaboration with Educators: MIE has actively collaborated with educators from various
institutions, both within and outside the Modern School Society. This collaborative effort aims to
share best practices, brainstorm innovative teaching methodologies, and collectively contribute
to the evolution of the education landscape.
 State Education Department Partnership: MIE has established a collaborative partnership with
the state education department to enhance teacher education. Joint initiatives include
curriculum development, teacher training programs, and the implementation of modern
teaching techniques in schools across the state.
 Two-day visit of Government Primary School Teachers: September 1 and 4, 2023: The central
objective of this visit was to broaden the horizons of teachers, providing them with fresh ideas
and innovative approaches to engage their students effectively. Furthermore, it sought to
expose educators to a diverse array of teaching methodologies, classroom management
techniques, and administrative strategies.
During the school tour, they were introduced to various facilities, including the clinic, games
field, sculpture room, junior computer lab, junior art room, and junior library. The teachers also
conducted classroom observations, spanning from the Pre-Primary section to Grade V.
Following this, the group was engaged in a reflective session. This allowed them to share and
discuss key takeaways from the visit, facilitating a constructive exchange of insights between the
visiting teachers, the Principal, and the Headmistress.
