Part II: - Explain Briefly

1. Draw and explain the function of each part of DC power supply system.
2. Draw and explain the volt-Ampere characteristic of semiconductor diode and their
application.
3. List and explain at list three important AC terminologies.
4. If you double the rotational speed of an ac generator, what happens to the frequency and
period of the waveform?
5. A 10Hz sinusoidal current has a value of 5A at t=25ms. What is its value at t=75ms?

Part III: - Calculation

1. Calculate the resistance of copper conductor having a length of 2Km and a cross section of
22mm2. Assume the resistivity is 18 * 10-9 Ω-m.

2. If the base current in a transistor is 20μA when the emitter current is 6.4mA. calculate the
collector current, the values of 𝛼𝛼 and 𝛽𝛽.

3. A diode operating at 3000K at a forward voltage of 0.4V carries a current of 10mA. When
the voltage is changed to 0.42V, the current becomes twice. Calculate the value of reverse
saturation current and 𝜂𝜂 for the diode.

4. Determine the phase relationship between voltage and current given by the following
equations:
𝑣𝑣 = 50𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠(𝜔𝜔𝜔𝜔 + 200 ) 𝑉𝑉 𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 𝑖𝑖 = 10cos (𝜔𝜔𝜔𝜔 − 450 )𝐴𝐴
5. A 10Ω resistor, a 15.9mH inductor and 159µF capacitor are connected in parallel to a 200V,
50Hz source. Calculate the supply current and power factor.
