Psychology Project

Introduction

Topic of Interest:-

This project revolves around the topic Academic Pressure on Students Mental Health.
This topic will give an overview on how academic pressure affects the mental health of
students. This topic gives answers to some of the frequent questions raised such as
How students feel mental pressure through academic works? How do they cope up with
their stress?Which part of Academics does students worry the most about? How can
this be changed?,etc.

Method of Study:-

Questionnaire:-
The questionnaire is the most common, simple, versatile, and low-cost self-report
method of collecting information. It consists of a predetermined set of questions. The
respondent has to read the questions and mark the answers on paper rather than
respond verbally to the interviewer.Questionnaires can be distributed to a group of
persons at a time who write down their answers to the questions and return to the
researcher or can be sent through mail. Generally, two types of questions are used in
the questionnaire: open-ended and closed ended. With open-ended questions, the
respondent is free to write whatever answer s/he considers appropriate. In the closed
ended type, the questions and their probable answers are given and the respondent is
required to select the correct answer. The questionnaire is used for collecting
background and demographic information, information about past behaviour, attitudes
and opinions, knowledge about a particular topic, and expectations and aspirations of
the person.

Aim:-
To conduct a questionnaire on how Academic Pressure can affect a student’s Mental
Health.

Participants Details:-
15 Students of age 16 or under participated voluntarily.

Procedure:-
This questionnaire was conducted online through google forms. Participants filled these
forms and gave answers to the question asked. This questionnaire was conducted
smoothly with voluntary participation.

RESULT:-

This study shows that most students study for 1-2 hours per day and only a few
students study for about 5 hours or more and less than one hour. A majority of children
feel overwhelmed by academic work compared to others. Time management and
exams are the main source of stress continued by parental expectations and peer
pressure. Music, dance, sports and arts have been the main source for students to cope
up with academic pressure.
Taking break time and talking to friends/family have been the best stress coping
techniques. Students agree that academic pressure has a significant impact on their
mental health.

Discussion:-
Academic pressure on students has become a significant concern in modern education
systems. It refers to the stress and anxiety experienced by students due to the demands
of academic performance, such as grades, standardised tests, and competition.
The questionnaire method provided a structured and efficient way to gather data from a
large number of students.
By asking specific questions about their experiences and feelings, I was able to quantify
the extent of academic pressure and its effects on mental well-being.

ADVANTAGES:-

Questionnaires can be distributed to a group of persons at a time who write down their
answers to the questions and return to the researcher or can be sent through mail.

Standardisation: The use of pre-determined questions ensures consistency and

comparability of responses.

Efficiency: Questionnaires can be administered quickly and easily to a large sample of

participants.

Quantitative data: Questionnaires can generate quantitative data that can be analysed
statistically to identify trends and patterns.
DISADVANTAGES:-

The main problem of a mailed questionnaire is poor response from the respondents.

Questionnaires may not capture the full complexity of students' experiences and
emotions.

People may give inaccurate information because of memory lapses or they may not
want to let the researcher know what they really believe about a particular issue.

People sometimes offer responses they think the researcher wants to hear.

CONCLUSION
The questionnaire method, while providing valuable quantitative data on academic
pressure and its impact on students' mental health, is a valuable tool. However, to fully
understand the complex interplay between these factors, it is essential to complement it
with qualitative research methods. By combining these approaches, researchers can
gain a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by
students and develop effective interventions to promote their mental well-being.

Academic Pressure Survey Questionnaires

5. How do you cope with academic pressure? (Explain briefly)

1. As my main source of pressure is from my peers, I'd stop thinking about others and focus more on my
performance and as time management becomes a huge problem for me most of the times, I'll spend some
time to sit down and prioritise the tasks prepare a checklist with time frame and proceed
2. I usually spend most of my time in many competitions , sports , dance and music .... So the only time I could
study is in my free time and in school hours. So I finish my study work mostly in school and in my free time .
3. Sometimes I meditate but most of the time I used to play like small kids, like someone is in front of me and
there are my friends and we even have superpower, we used to defeat villains and rescue the world blah
blah blah..
4. 1.staying awake long hours in the night /waking early in the morning to complete the work pending. 2.Going
to tutions to perform good in academics
5. Getting motivated by video's and songs,Play any kind of sports, spending time with friends and family, use to
talk with myself 😁
6. I cope with academic pressure by taking breaks , playing light games , listening to songs , watching movies
or short films, etc.
7. I either unplug from all my devices or I go to my happy place (lake view road) just to walk around for a bit.
8. Talk with friends or family so we can reduce stress Hear some music so it will calm my mind and refresh
9. Taking a walk,music, watching a movie, reading a book(apart from school books)
10. Academic Pressure is not a pressure. It's a task.
11. I don't... I just go with the flow lol
12. By practising football everyday
13. By working overtime ! 😔
14. Gaming and drawing fr
15. By procrastinating
10. What changes would you like to see in the education system to reduce academic pressure?

➔ The teachers must inform the students about the upcoming assignments, topic and deadline to complete the
projects so that the students can able to cope up and manage their personal as well as academic work
accordingly. 2.the teachers can take the class in an interactive way so that the students can understand the
concepts in a better way which also reduces the fear of students while preparing for their exams…
➔ As a person like me , who wants to use her school time to study .... We need more time to study in our
school. I think I don't have that much academic pressure. But one thing I wish to convey is , Working on your
passion will definitely reduce your academic pressure. So our education system should provide ways in
which every one can find and work towards their passion in their school life
➔ Just want teachers to guide us in a perfect and playful route according to me because I only study or I get
memorised things only when I'm happy and playing
➔ Reduce theory instead increase particle which helps students to understand easily and enjoy while doing
something new 👍🏼🫂
➔ Planning works (which have to be assigned to us) efficiently by teachers so that we have enough time to
complete everything !
➔ I have no idea and frankly, it isn't gonna get implemented in a competitive world like this.
➔ Education should be provided to all students. We as students should work for the future.
➔ Not to give too much activities and are expected to give worksheet to practise every day
➔ Don't give too much homeworks 😭 let the kids enjoy their teens bru
➔ Regular class tests or a quick quiz now and then might help a lot.
➔ Rank system and comparison should be avoided
➔ By giving priority to sport's after studies
➔ Slow down the learning process
➔ Slow and paced teaching
➔ Revise the syllabi
