Presidents Monthly Announcements for December 2011
Its 9pm on Thursday evening & I just finished the last of the washing up from Xmas day! Thank you for making this a really enjoyable event and especially to the Crack team of SAS undercover Special Forces, Code Name Chilli Cha Cha! Thank you for the wonderful effort you all made and for joining in the events of the day and your gifts. It was great to cool off in the pool and Im now eagerly awaiting Ghaurrys year ah ha! Its Olympic Leap year and just when you thought most of the work was behind us, another set of challenges comes along. January is Rotary Awareness Month, and our first G7 group project being led by President Isfahani Suki at RC Pantai Valley, Suki is a wonderful lady and has been working very hard to secure this venue. Citta Mall at Ara Damansara is a new strip mall and offers us the opportunity of Showcasing our clubs projects, people and culture, as well as offering fund raising to the Myanmar Refugees, our Interactors, and friends, just in time for Chinese New Year. Please come along and support this day and have a look around, there will be 30+ tables all related to the Rotary clubs in our group G7. Kids colouring contest, games, fun activities and you may find a few interested people who really would like to know what we do and how to join in. We also have a number of REF events in Q1 2012, starting with the Mentors workshop this Sunday 8th. And planning already in place for the REF Students Leadership camp in March, immediately after RC Chungli Chung Shing, our Taiwanese Sister clubs soon to be anniversary. Busy busy! This Saturday immediately after the meeting we are taking a short trip to present the New Wheel Chair, mattress and diapers to Bob Faridos care of our club contributions. I encourage members who can attend to please join for a fairly quick event. Thanks to Dr. Yee, Dr. Sanjay and the CS team for setting this up. Just time for another Turkey sandwich before I attempt to dismantle the Christmas tree! Oh yes, I may give you a glimpse of The BAG, and the new Fines Hat soon! The 3rd meeting in January will be Assembly time, focusing on our Fund raiser for the year. Bring your ideas and your brain caps and make this a must attend meeting. To finish, Gerrie & I wish you a Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin version), by the way, Gerrie & daughter have been making lucky Mandarin Oranges & Fish decorations for your tree, dont miss out, Citta Mall, selling like hot cakes bring your friends lah! Words to Grow By
Just as Rotary itself can never keep its place unless it is constantly growing, so each individual Rotary Club cannot afford to stand still while the stream of life moves onward. Armando de Arruda Pereira, 1940-41 RI president,

The families came from the Alliance of Chins (ACR) group based in Kuala Lumpur. The fellowship Centre is located on the 2nd floor of a shop lot and serves as the main church for the ethnic Chins from Myanmar. The Rotarians brought grocery hampers which consisted among others of 10kg bag of rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, meehoon, canned baked beans and sardines, assorted biscuits and soap powder to be distributed to the families which were selected from among widows or those which has one parent hospitalized. They were thus families who were handicapped in their income earning capacity. There were a total of about 70 Myanmar adults and children present. About 15 Rotarians and volunteers were at hand to unload, deliver and do the packing of the 25 individual grocery hampers in-situ at the centre. The goods were delivered in a members Mitsubishi Triton truck, which came in very handy. Activities began with the normal formalities of a few words from the ACR Chairman Simon Khaw and Rotary President Steve Robinson. An interpreter Debra was at hand to assist. The hampers, contained in cardboard boxes were then given by Steve to the 25 families. And then it was time for Santa Claus (Rtn Graham) to make an appearance. Ho-ho-ho-ing, Santa distributed candies while caroling led by Rotarians Frances Po and Poay Lim on guitar added to a joyous Christmas atmosphere. After Santa entertained with a few childrens games, the children were called up one by one to receive their presents. School bags and a stationery set sponsored thanks to Mr Balaguru of Kindy-Land were handed out to the children together with more candies. Thanks also go to Rotarian Aravind who sponsored pens for the children and adults. A pizza lunch complete with a Christmas cup cake were then provided to the Myanmar families. During the lunch, the families also queued up for flu vaccinations organized by the Rotary club sponsored by Sanofi-Pasteur and administered by two nurses from the Myanmar community. Present too at the project, besides the above, were Rotarians Ghaurry, Siew Hwa, Steven Lim, Frankie, Karen and volunteers Gerrie, Jenny, Willa Wong and Shiva. By YYL
