Scenario:
Launch the Microsoft Access
Name the three buttons at the left side of the window:
1. Recent
2. Open Other Files
Describe the window that appeared. Backstage View

Click the New button.


Name at least six available database templates:
1. Blank Desktop Database
2. Custom Web App
3. Asset Tracking
4. Contacts
5. Students
6. Event Management
Click the Students Database.
What window opened? Student List

Describe the properties of this database.


Click the Create button.
What button for security warning can you find below the Ribbon? Enable Content

Click that button.


What did you observe? A Welcome Window appeared.

Click Get Started button. Look at the left side of the window. Scroll down.
What six Access objects can you find?

Name the tabs of the MS Access:

What filename can you see in the Title bar? Database (Access 2007 – 2016 File Format) - Access

How can you differentiate the icons of the Access objects? They help create the datasheet.

Name the reports that you can produce in this database:

What filename can you find in the Database / Object tab? Student list

Click the New button on the Student table.


What Access object is displayed? Student Details

Fill - out the needed information.


What four buttons can you see in the upper part of the form?
1. Go To
2. Save and New
3. Email
4. Save As Outlook Contact
Click Save and New. Use any data (random information) that you want. Create at least three records.
Click the Close button
What did you observe? It created a student list.

Right - click in the Student List Database / Object tab.


Name all the commands that you can do:
1. Save
2. Close
3. Close All
4. Form View
5. Layout View
6. Design View
Click the Save button. Right - click again and choose Close command.
What happened to the Student List tab? It closed the student list.

Click the Create tab.


Name the groups the tab has:
1. Templates
2. Tables
3. Queries
4. Forms
5. Reports
6. Marcos & Code

Click the Table button on the Tables group.


What name appeared in the Object tab? Table1

Click the “Click to Add down arrow”


List down the available data types:
1. Short Text
2. Number
3. Currency
4. Date & Time
5. Yes/No
6. Lookup & Relationship
7. Rich Text
8. Long Text
9. Attachment
10. Hyperlink
11. Calculated Field
12. Paste as Fields
Choose Long text from the data types.
What field name appeared? Field1

Choose the 12-number data type in the next field, choose Long text data type in the next field.
Type Names in field 1, Mobile Number in field 2 and Address for field 3.
What number is displayed in the Mobile Number field? 0

Encode random data (any information).


What icon can you see at the left of the table while you are encoding tab? I noticed a pencil
icon.

What did you notice in the ID field? I noticed that it added numbers.

Make at least five records.


What contextual tab appeared in the Title bar? Fields Contextual Tab

Name the two tabs it has:


1. Views
2. Add & Delete
Click on the Views button from the Views group of the Field tab of this contextual tab.
What is the default view? Datasheet view
Differentiate the two views available:
Datasheet view – users can switch from form view to Datasheet view but not back again.
Design view – enables you to design and set up your database (behind the scenes)
Click the Design view.
What dialog box opened? Save As Dialog Box

Type Written Activity and Performance Task 3.4 - your name in the Table name box and click OK.
What did you observe? It gave me a warning.

What is the warning all about? The object I entered doesn’t follow Microsoft Access object-
naming rules.

Remove the period in the filename and change to dash, and click OK. Save this document as PDF file and
submit in the LMS.
