Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions,
exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step
as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to
ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the
lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check
your learning. Answer keys are provided for each activity and test. We trust that
you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher are also provided
to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best
help you on your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of
this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and tests. And
read the instructions carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks
in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.

Let Us Learn
3. Make a stand on how the consequences of one’s action affect the lives of
others and the environment (HUMSS_MCT12-Ih-i-4)
Let Us Try
As an initial activity, you will be assessed on your prior knowledge.
This is to find out what are the things you need to learn about the subject
matter.
Direction: Write the letter of the correct answer in your answer sheet.

Disadvantages
A. Failing economy will have a domino effect on its trading partner in
another counter. This is evident among the European Union in which
bail-out was made to save an economically failing nation.
B. Wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of small group of
corporate elite putting smaller competitors in disadvantageous
situation resulting to weakening of their business capability that
usually ends up selling their business to bigger companies.
Let Us Practice
________1. Scientists believe that as the Earth continues to warm up, we are
experiencing weather-related disasters.
________2. When we burn fossil fuels we release oxygen and carbon dioxide
in the air.
________6. Volcanic eruptions are natural event that affect the climate
change.
________10. Fossil fuels are natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the
geological past from the remains of living organisms.
Direction: Examine the picture below. Observe every detail and answer
the questions that follow. Write your answer on your answer sheet.

Paskill (2018) suggested eight (8) simple ways to help care our
environment. In every little thing you make a difference.
3. Recycle
Instead of throwing recyclables within the trash along with your non-
recyclables, recycle the materials of fine use. create a degree to require an
additional step to separate reclaimable materials like cans, bottles, plastic
and papers.
12
Keeping your notes can facilitate the scholars by having the ability to
scan what they're learning within the words of another student. If you can’t
notice anyone to convey the notes to, at the terribly least, recycle the paper
you used.
6. Save Electricity!
7. Save Water
Water is wasted a lot frequently than we can see. Shut down the
faucet as you're brushing your teeth. Don’t turn your shower on till you’re
able to get in and wash your hair. Limit your water usage as you wash
dishes.
1. Stop Cutting down Trees: Believe it or not, cutting down trees is the
prime reason of the climate change. Planting new trees can quickly scale
back the speed of the emission of gases.
2. Control Population: Yes, if the population is controlled, then climate
change can also be controlled. How? Putting in simpler words, more
number of individuals suggests that additional demand of resources like
food and shelter resulted in additional usage or utilization of the earth.
3. Less use of Fossil Fuels: The high discharges of the greenhouses gases
are diminishing the ozone layer which gives global warming. It is then one
of the major causes of climate change.
4. Unplug your Devices: In almost every house, there are at least a dozen of
appliances which includes air conditioner, television, microwave, washing
machine and others. These devices lead to global warming, hence the
climate change.

Things to Remember!
Carbon emission from your home is directly correlated to everyday
energy consumption. One way to reduce your carbon footprint is to improve
energy efficiency:
Inside your home:
• When appliances are not in use, turn them off and unplug them. Even
small appliances like cell phone chargers waste energy when plugged
in all day. It is called ghost-electricity.
• Take shorter, cooler showers and turn off the tap when brushing your
teeth.
• Recycle everything you can.
• Replace incandescent light bulbs with CFL low energy bulbs, which
use just 20% of the energy of a normal light bulb and last 15 times
longer.
• When replacing older appliances, always opt for appliances that use
less power and receive a good energy rating.
At your office:

________3. Using plastic cups help the environment as it helps for refilling
water or juices.
________5. Turning off lights, TV, and other appliances when not in use help
conserve our energy.
________9. The more people recycle, the less the people dispose their garbage
________10. Reduce, remove and recycle are the 3 R's of the environment.

Direction: List down some daily activities and tell how these contribute to
climate change. Also, provide advisable corrective actions.

Let Us Reflect
Direction: Create a pledge of action in promoting environmental
responsibility to solve global warming. Also, indicate your reflections.

Let Us Study
There is broad-based agreement within the scientific community that
climate change is real. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration correspond that climate change is indeed
happening and is almost certainly due to human activity. The primary
reason behind climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and
coal, which emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere— primarily carbon
dioxide. Other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation, also
contribute to the production of greenhouse gases that cause climate change.
and habitat change. The more disruptions human can do, the more
damaging effects it creates, and the atmospheric balance that maintains the
Earth’s climate becomes unstable that leads to climate change.

Things to Remember!
⚫ People needs global awareness about climate change and its effects.
⚫ Human uncontrollable consumption and production patterns can lead to
loss of biodiversity and causes climate change.
⚫ Climate change is an increase in the average temperature of the earth's
atmosphere.
⚫ Greenhouse effect is referred to the warming results when solar radiation
is trapped by the atmosphere.
