Explain the goal of social studies program and specific itemize the objective of
teaching social studies at Nigeria secondary school and tertiary institutions

The goal of a social studies program is to help students develop a comprehensive


understanding of the world around them, encompassing history, geography, culture,
politics, economics, and social structures. The objectives of teaching social
studies at Nigerian secondary schools and tertiary institutions include:

Secondary Schools:

1. Developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills


2. Understanding Nigerian history, culture, and heritage
3. Appreciating diversity and promoting national unity
4. Acquiring skills for effective citizenship and participation in the democratic
process
5. Enhancing geographic literacy and understanding of global issues
