Union Background:

This Union was created after the Second World War in an effort to integrate and improve the

European countries. In 1951, six European countries came together to create the treaty of Paris,

the antecesor of the European Union. Continuing to grow, settling in 1957 with the treaties of

Rome, creating the European Union parliament. Over the years, the European Union has started

including more members, lately having 27 countries as members.

The current members are:

President role and capabilities

The President of the European Union is appointed by national leaders and approved by the

European parliament. The president's roles include being the external representative on

foreign and security issues as well as taking part in G7 meetings, giving political guidance to

the European Union commission and contributing in major debates both in the European

Parliament and the Council of the European Union. They also lead the commissions work in

implementing EU policies and lead the European Council's in setting the EU's general

political direction and priorities.

Problems

During the last few years the European Union has had many inconveniences and problems,

this includes the Brexit, the migration crisis that created tensions between the countries in

the union, the economical crisis that have affected several countries of the union and the

recent Covid 19 pandemic that has taken an impact in the social and economic sections and

had tested the solidarity and the capabilities of the countries.
