LOCI FORM 4 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS.

1. Use a ruler and compasses only for all constructions in this question.
Construct a triangle ABC in which AB=8cm, and BC=7.5cm and angle ABC=105°.
By shading the unwanted regions show the locus of P within the triangle ABC such that;
i. AP ≤ BP,
ii. AP >3cm.
iii. AB ≤ AC
iv. Mark the required region as P.
v. Construct a perpendicular from C to meet AB produced at D.
vi. Locate the locus of R in the same diagram such that the area of triangle ARB is ¾ of
the area of the triangle ABC. (10 marks)

2. Use a pair of compasses and ruler only in this question;

a) Draw an obtuse angled triangle ABC in which angle CAB = 37.5o, AB = 8cm and CB
= 6.4cm. Measure the length of side AC.
b) On the triangle ABC below:
i. On the same side of AC as B, draw the locus of a point X so that angle AXC =
67.5o
ii. Also draw the locus of another point Y, which is 5.2cm away from AC and on the
same side as X
c) Show by shading the region P outside the triangle such that angle APC ≥ 67.5o
and P is not less than 5.2cm away from AC. (10 marks)

3. Using a pair of compass and ruler only construct.

a. Triangle ABC such that AB = 9 cm , AC = 7 cm and angle ABC = 600
b. Locus M such that it is always equidistant between point A and B
c. Locus N such that it is always equidistant between line AB and AC
d. Locus P such that it is always 2 cm from line BC
e. Locus Q such that it is always 3 cm from point C
f. Locus R such that the area of triangle ARB is always 18 cm2
g. Locus T such that angle ATB is always 600
h. Locus V such that angle AVB is always 900 (10 marks)
