In my current position in the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of
Medicine, University of Peradeniya, I conduct lectures in statistics, epidemiology,
research methodology, health economics, injury prevention and nutrition for medical
undergraduates.
I supervise physiology research projects of the 1st and 2nd year medical students and
the pharmacology research projects of the 3rd year medical students, till 2004, when
the new curriculum was introduced.
I was a member in the „Y‟ Committee (Planning and Implementation Board) and am
a member in the Communication, Learning and Research (CLR) Stream Committee
and the Doctor in Society (DIS) Stream Committee (Modular committees of the
“Beyond 2004” curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya). I am
also a member in the „Z‟ Committee (Examination and Evaluation Board) of the
“Beyond 2004” curriculum. In these functions I was actively involved in the
curriculum revision that took place in the Faculty of Medicine in 2004.
I am a supervisor for the research projects of the medical undergraduates in the CLR
Stream of the new curriculum.
I have been functioning as the Module Coordinator of the Locomotion Module for the
Year 3 since April 2010.

SERVICE FUNCTIONS:
AS THE MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH, HINDAGALA COMMUNITY HEALTH
PROJECT AREA:
I functioned as the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of the Hindagala Community Health
Project (HCHP) from February 1996 to December 2000. The HCHP is the field practice
area of the Department of Community Medicine. It had an average mid-year population of
approximately 21,000 persons and consisted of the following field staff during my period as
the MOH; a Public Health Nursing Sister, a Supervising Public Health Midwife, a Public
Health Inspector and six Pubic Health Midwives. There were thirteen schools and one
Health Care Institution (a Central Dispensary) in the HCHP area during this period. Five
field polyclinics (consisting of Antenatal, Well Baby, Family Planning, Immunization and
Well Women components) were conducted each month by the health care staff of the
HCHP.
Administrative functions
These included,
Logistic issues involving drugs, equipment, vehicles and consumables required for
the functioning of the area
Compiling, supervising, maintaining and submitting returns and reports of the Health
Information System
Detecting, investigating and reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Infant and Maternal
deaths in the HCHP
Planning and conducting meetings and conferences in the HCHP area
