4. Understand the future of the World Wide Web through Web 3.0 and
5. Learn the different trends in ICT and use them to their advantage.
What is Information Technology?

and telecommunications) for storing, retrieving, and
sending information.

1. Computer – is an electronic device for


storing and processing data.
2. Internet – it is the global system of
interconnected computer networks that
use the internet protocol suite to link
billions of devices worldwide.
3. World Wide Web – it is an information
space where documents and other web
resources are identified by URLs
interlinked by hypertext links and can be
accessed via the internet.

UNLOCKING THE DIFFICULTIES

• DIGITAL NATIVE – a person born or brought up in


the age of digital technology and therefore,
acquainted with computers and the Internet from an
early age.
• Web 1.0 – static web without interactivity
• Web 2.0 – websites with dynamic content
• Web 3.0 - a concept of the World Wide Web that is
designed to cater to individual users.
• Static – refers to a web site that is the same
regardless of the user.
• Social Media – websites, applications, or online
channels that allow users to create, co-create, discuss,
modify, and exchange content generated by users.

- user will subscribe to a software only when
needed rather than purchasing them.
- software as a service allows you to “rent” a
software for a minimal fee.

3. WEB 3.0 (Semantic Web)
- is a movement led by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that
says “The Semantic Web provides a common framework that allows
data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise and
community boundaries.

- the aim of Web 3.0 is to have machines (or servers) understand the
user’s preferences to be able to deliver web content specifically
targeting the user.

communication tools and
computer-assisted channels
dedicated to enabling users
to interact, communicate, and
share information in a virtual

designed to help
people who have
visual and reading
impairment etc. A
database of audio
recording is used to
read to the user.

1. Social network –allow you to connect


with other people with the same interest or
background.

– allow you to store and manage links
to various websites and resources.
Most these sites allow you to create a
tag that allows you and others to
easily search or share them.

- allow users to post their own news items or

links to other news sources. The user can also

comment on the post and comment may also be

ranked. There are also capable of voting on

this news article of the website. Those who get

the greatest number of votes are shown

prominently.

music, and video. Most of

iPhone and iPad. An operating system
used for mobile devices manufactured by
Apple Inc.

system developed by Google. Being open
source means several mobile phone
companies use this Operating System for
free. An open-source operating system
used for smartphones and tablet
computers.

• To fully understand the importance of ICT, let us look


at our community first. Look for a small business in
your community.
• Conduct a short interview of the business owner
using the following guide.
