b) 5 ∈ [4,7]
c) {−3, 1, 0} ⊆ ℕ
2. Given the universal 𝑈 = {𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐, 𝑑, 𝑒, 𝑓, 𝑔} and the sets
𝐴 = {𝑐, 𝑑, 𝑒} , 𝐵 = {𝑏, 𝑐, 𝑑, 𝑓}, 𝐶 = {𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑒},
Write down the following sets:
a) (𝐴 ∪ 𝐵) ∩ 𝐶
b) (𝐴 ∩ 𝐵) ∪ 𝐶
c) ̅̅̅
𝐴 ∪ ̅̅̅
𝐶
d) (𝐴 ∪ 𝐵)𝑐

3. In a survey of 120 students, it was found that 55 students were studying mathematics,
50 students were studying physics, 45 students were studying chemistry, 15 students
were studying both mathematics and physics, 20 students were studying both
mathematics and chemistry, 10 students were studying both physics and chemistry,
and 5 students were studying all three sciences.
a) Express the above information in a Venn diagram
b) Find the number of students who were studying at least two subjects.
c) Find the number of students who were not studying any of the three subjects.
d) Find the number of students who were studying both physics and chemistry but not
mathematics

4. Find the equation of the line 𝐷1 that satisfies the following conditions:
a) 𝐷1 has gradient 3 and cuts the 𝑦 −axis at 𝑦 = −3
b) 𝐷1 passes through (−1, 1) and is perpendicular to 𝐷2 ≡ 𝑥 + 3𝑦 + 1 = 0
c) 𝐷1 cuts the 𝑥 −axis at (−2, 0) and is parallel to 𝐷2 ≡ 3𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 1 = 0
