MODULE 1
VII. SELF-EVALUATION
Answer the following questions:
1. What is an input interface? How it is differ from output interface? (5pts)
- The input Interface transform the input data and instructions fed to the computer
through its input devices into the binary codes which are acceptable to the computer.
Whereas, the output interfaces transform the information obtained from data
processing, from binary form to human acceptable form.
2. List out the logical steps taken by a computer system along with the roles of main
units of the computer system in each step while transforming an input data to useful
information for presentation to the user. (10 pts.)
Step 1- Takes data as input. (Works input unit)
Step 2- Stores the data / instructions in its memory and uses the as required.
(Works input unit.)
Step 3- Processes the data and converts it into useful information. (Works CPU)
Step 4- Generates the output. (Works output input)
3. Explain what the von Neumann architecture is and, with the help of an example,
explain how it process data. (10 pts)
- The Von Neumann architecture consists of a single, shared memory for
programs and data, a single bus for memory access, an arithmetic unit, and a program
control unit. The Von Neumann processor operates fetching and execution cycles
seriously. Von Neumann architecture is based on the stored program computer
concept, where instruction data and program data are stored in the same memory.
4. Apart from the above, there have been many other mathematical and technical
breakthroughs that had an impact on the way computers have advanced since the early
twentieth century. Write a short essay in which you specify the two advances that - in
your view - have been most significant and argue why they been so important (15 pts)
- Computer has become very important nowadays because it is very much
accurate, fast and can accomplish many task easily. Otherwise to complete those task
manually much more time is required. It can do very big calculations in just a fraction of
a second. Moreover it can store huge amount of data in it
MODULE 2
SELF-EVALUATION:
Provide your answer on the questions below. (10 pts.)
1. What is Computer Network? How networks can be connected?
- A computer network is a group of computers that use a set of common
communication protocols over digital interconnections for the purpose of sharing
resources located on or provided by the network nodes. To connect to the Internet and
other computers on a network, a computer must have a NIC (network interface card)
installed. A network cable plugged into the NIC on one end and plugged into a cable
modem, DSL modem, router, or switch can allow a computer to access the Internet and
connect to other computers.
2. What is the relationship between network and internet?
- The Network is a collection of computer systems and devices that are linked
together using LAN, WAN, CAN, or HAN whereas the Internet is a global system to link
various types of electric devices worldwide.
3. What do you mean by Bandwidth?
- Capacity of a communication channel for carrying data. It is measured in bits/s
(bps), kb/s, Mb/s, Gb/s, Tb/s. Optical fiber channels have the highest (1Tb/s).
Telephone lines has the lowest (56 kb/s).
4. How internet affects your life as student? Impacts?
- Internet is very beneficial for me as a student in all aspects. It serves as a
teacher to students from where you can ask everything and it will answer you. The
Internet can be used to very fast purposes to get information and knowledge to want to
get your subject, field, education, institution, etc. Studies conducted on the students
show that internet addiction has been accompanied by major problems such as the
educational drop, reduced the curriculum study, anxiety, reduced interpersonal
relationships, and reduced physical activities, irregularity, and nutritional diseases.
5. What are the benefits of network offers?
-It enhances communication and availability of information.
-It allows for more convenient resource sharing.
-It makes file sharing easier.
-It is highly flexible.
-It is an inexpensive system.
-It increases cost efficiency.
-It boosts storage capacity.
MODULE 3
VII. SELF-EVALUATION
Questions:
1. Write short note on next generations computers (yet to come).
- Next generation computers will be powerful in the future. Assistant AI will be a
big thing along with robots of all types. Computer will be faster and smarter than use
and robots will be faster and better at tasks.
2. Write short note on evolution of Intel computers.
- In 1985, Intel introduced the successor to the 80286, the 80386 (386), a 32-bit
processor. The Pentium, first offered in 1993, quickly replaced Intel's subsequent 486
as the microchip-of-choice for PCs. Itanium was Intel's first microprocessor based on
the 64-bit architecture known as IA-64.
3. Who is known as the father of modern digital computers and why?
- Charles Babbage is known as the father of computers as he was the first
person to come up with the idea of a programmable computer. He disliked untidiness
and spurred on by this, he first mentioned the calculating machine in a letter in 1822.
His calculating engines were not actually completed due to funding problems and
personality issues, but Babbage did prove that his machines could do the job of
calculating better than any human and his steam powered devices more or less did the
job correctly.
4. What factors affect the performance of computer system?
- Factors Affect The Performance Of Computer System
Faster processing within CPU, & multiple CPU's
Wider, faster data and instruction paths (buses)
More and faster memory, including advanced cache technology.
Faster disk access
Faster, better quality display
5. What components are involved in determining the performance of computer system?
Ans: Computer Involved In Determining The Performance Of Computer System
CPU Development
Bus Technology
Memory Performance
Cache Technology
Disc Access Performance
Display Technology
MODULE 4
SELF-EVALUATION
Questions:
1. Hardware and software of a computer system are like two sides of a coin. Discuss.
- It is said that software and hardware are like two sides of a coin. Why it is said
so? They are said to be two sides of the same coin to convey the meaning that they
both are inter-dependent. Hardware is useless without software and vice versa.
Hardware and software are two components which makes a computer. Without these
two components we can't imagine a computer.
For example, without the driver of a hardware and OS kernel (a program which
directly interacts with the hardware) we cannot use hardware. Similarly, without the
processor and a memory it is impossible for a software to run. Thus, hardware and
software are like two sides of a coin.
2. Define the terms hardware and software.
- Computer hardware is any physical device used in or with your machine,
whereas software is a collection of programming code installed on your computer's hard
drive. In other words, hardware is something you can hold in your hand, whereas
software cannot be held in your hand.
3. How many types of software are there? Give example of each.
- There are two types of software:
System software.
Application software tools
-Example of System Software:
System software is software designed to provide a platform for other software.
Examples of system software include operating systems like macOS, GNU/Linux ,
Android and Microsoft Windows, computational science software, game engines,
industrial automation, and software as a service applications.
-Example of Application Software:
⚪Word processing
⚪Spreadsheet
⚪ Presentation
⚪ Database management
⚪ Multimedia tools
4. List out some key functions performed by the system software of a computer system.
- Booting. ...
- Memory Management.
- Loading and Execution.
- Data Security.
- Disk Management.
- Process Management.
- Device Controlling.
