Practice Exercise 2

A. Let p and q be the propositions “Mathematics is a significant part of human

logic and thought” and “Mathematics gives an effective way to create mental
discipline and increases logical reasoning,” respectively. Express each of
these compound propositions as an English sentence.

6. q→p

logical reasoning, then Mathematics is a significant part of human logic and thought.

7. ¬p → ¬q

If Mathematics is not a significant part of human logic and thought, then

Mathematics does not give an effective way to create mental discipline and
increases logical reasoning.

8. ¬q → ¬p

If Mathematics does not give an effective way to create mental discipline and
increases logical reasoning, then Mathematics is not a significant part of human
logic and thought.

9. p↔q

Mathematics will be a significant part of human logic and thought if and only if
Mathematics gives an effective way to create mental discipline and increases logical
reasoning.

10. ¬q ∨ (¬p ∧ q)

module or you get 4.0 grade on the final. r ↔ (q ∨ p)

5.Getting 4.0 grade on the final and doing every exercise in this module is sufficient
for getting 4.0 grade in this class. (p ∧ q) → r
