blog focus guide

Over the last 6 years, I’ve learnt a lot of blogging lessons. The information that keeps
my blog growing is what to focus on as a blogger. In this guide, I’m sharing that with
you.

content
You might have already heard of this phrase or the similar one, "content is king".
Even if not, you might already have this sentiment in your mind. But trust me, the
meaning of this phrase is much deeper.

Your blog brand is controlled by your content. If your content is more about books
then you are considered a book blogger no matter what you call yourself. Every single
post enforces or reinforces a certain idea. The more I post helpful content, you will
consider me helpful. If I post more recommendations, you will associate my blog with
that. If you want to have a clear blog brand, you need to consider how every post fits
into that brand.

“Blog brand” is also your blogging voice. You can blog about an entirely new topic
and keep the post on the brand by

● having a cohesive blogging voice throughout your blog, including this post.
● making sure that it links somehow to some of your other posts.

keep SEO basics in mind while writing

All of the "SEO strategies" are things that make our posts easier for users to find,
read, and love. It is not something impersonal or targeted towards google bots. By
using SEO strategies, you are already making your posts better written.

Here are some basic things you can start with:

● Have a good title. It should be catchy, short-ish, and clearly lets the reader
know what they will find in the post. Always recheck whether your title holds
good after you finish writing the final version of your posts.
● Write short paragraphs. This makes your blog posts easier to read.
● Interlink your posts wherever relevant. It shows that you have more knowledge
related to the topic.

consistency
No matter the actual frequency, consistent blogging always pays off.

Here’s how you can stay consistent:

● Create a realistic posting schedule. Consistency doesn't dictate a specific

frequency either. Whether you post thrice a week or once a week or once a
month, it is a consistent effort that is worth it.
● Set aside time for blogging every week. I’ve created a morning routine that
involves working on the blog in one way or another. This way, I make sure to
chip off new posts little by little until they’re done.
● Keep a brain dump with ideas. This way, you won’t have to think up an idea
after opening the blank editor.
● Frequently evaluate whether your schedule is working for you. If not, change
it.

keep learning and practising

Knowledge of anything becomes better as you learn. It is the same with blogging.
Make sure you’re always learning whether it’s in a direct way or indirect way. And put
what you learn into action.

Direct ways of learning are:

● Reading guides on blogging.

● Reading resources like this one!
● Doing a course.

Indirect ways of learning are:

● Seeing how other bloggers grow and become successful.

● Figuring out the reason why some posts do well and others don’t.
● Talking to other bloggers about blogging.
focus on engagement
It is easy to lose oneself in SEO and ways to acquire new readers. It is also easy to look
at page views as important stats. But the factor you should be thinking of the most is
engagement. Having lower page views and follower count but good engagement is
better than the reverse.

● Write relatable or helpful content that is easier to engage with.

● Reply to comments on your posts.
● Comment back and comment on other blogs.
● Interact with bloggers and readers on social media.
● Write questions at the end of your blog posts.
