7: Study of Simulation Software Proteus and Multisim

Introduction
Proteus and Multisim are powerful simulation software tools widely used in electronics
engineering for designing, testing, and analyzing circuits. They offer a virtual environment to
create and simulate various electronic circuits, saving time and resources compared to physical
prototyping.
Objectives
● To familiarize oneself with the user interface and features of Proteus and Multisim.
● To learn how to create and simulate basic electronic circuits in both software.
● To compare and contrast the functionalities and capabilities of Proteus and Multisim.
● To analyze the simulation results and interpret them in relation to the circuit's behavior.
Materials
● Computer with Proteus and Multisim software installed.
● Basic knowledge of electronic components and circuit theory.
Procedure
Part A: Proteus
1. Create a new project: Launch Proteus and create a new project.
2. Add components: From the component library, select and place the required
components (e.g., resistors, capacitors, inductors, voltage sources, etc.) onto the
workspace.
3. Connect components: Use wires to connect the components together according to the
desired circuit configuration.
4. Set component values: Assign appropriate values to the components (e.g., resistance,
capacitance, inductance).
5. Simulate the circuit: Run the simulation to observe the circuit's behavior, including
voltage and current waveforms.
6. Analyze results: Examine the simulation outputs and compare them with expected
values.
Part B: Multisim
1. Create a new circuit: Launch Multisim and create a new circuit.
2. Add components: Select and place the required components from the component
library.
3. Connect components: Use wires to connect the components together.
4. Set component values: Assign appropriate values to the components.
5. Simulate the circuit: Run the simulation to observe the circuit's behavior.
6. Analyze results: Examine the simulation outputs and compare them with expected
values.
Results and Analysis
● Circuit 1: (Describe the circuit and its purpose)
○ Proteus simulation results: (Summarize the key findings)
○ Multisim simulation results: (Summarize the key findings)
○ Comparison: (Compare the results obtained from both software)
● Circuit 2: (Describe the circuit and its purpose)
○ Proteus simulation results: (Summarize the key findings)
○ Multisim simulation results: (Summarize the key findings)
○ Comparison: (Compare the results obtained from both software)
Conclusion
● Summarize the key findings and observations from the experiment.
● Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using Proteus and Multisim for circuit
simulation.
● Suggest potential applications of these software tools in electronics engineering.
Note: The specific circuits to be simulated can be chosen based on the course curriculum or the
instructor's requirements. It is recommended to start with simple circuits and gradually increase
the complexity as you become more familiar with the software.
By following this procedure and carefully analyzing the results, you will gain valuable insights
into the capabilities of Proteus and Multisim and their applications in circuit design and analysis.
