EXTENSION PROGRAM PROPOSAL


PROGRAM TITLE: TEACH, INSPIRE, EMPOWER: A READING-BASED WORK IMMERSION
PROGRAM

III. PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

This program aims to assist elementary students who struggle with reading. It is an
effective method for our Work Immersion Program and allows Humanities and Social Sciences students to gain
practical experience. By providing dedicated attention and time for developing reading skills, the program helps
children who are not yet proficient in reading. Insufficient time for reading and distractions have hindered their
learning, leading to difficulties in reading and language. This program addresses these challenges, offering
students the opportunity to improve their knowledge while providing valuable experience for HumSS students.

IV. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

The goal of this program is to educate Grade 6 elementary students who are not proficient in
reading at Dr. Heracleo A. Guballa Elementary School. It aims to help them acquire knowledge and
successfully complete the work immersion program for Humanities and Social Sciences students. The program
focuses on teaching creatively, providing practical information, and creating an engaging learning environment.
The expected impact is twofold:

a.) providing enjoyable and educational extra time for students and;

b.) achieving positive outcomes for both students and the community. This includes imparting knowledge
within a limited timeframe, ensuring the success of the immersion project, and raising awareness about the
importance of reading.

V. PROGRAM COMPONENTS AND ACTIVITIES

This program aims to assist the students in acquiring more knowledge and successfully completing the
targeted work immersion program for the Humanities and Social Sciences students.

We aspire to achieve the following outcomes;


Teaching the students in a more creative manner
Providing them with factual information that they can apply
Creating a fun and engaging learning environment that allows them to acquire a substantial amount of
knowledge within a short period of time.
The expected impacts of this program on the target audiences and the broader community are twofold;

Providing additional information and making the students' extra time more enjoyable and educational
Our goals include achieving positive outcomes for both the students and the community.

VI. TIMELINE AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

On March 05, 2024, we will commence our work immersion program for Grade 6 students. The
program's lessons will be based on the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) and the Higher Order
Thinking Skills (HOTS) provided by the English subject Adviser of Dr. Heracleo A. Guballa Elementary School.
The work immersion program will be conducted every Tuesday and Wednesdays from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the
afternoon, as scheduled. Each student from the said grade level will participate in activities for a duration of 2-
3 hours . The program will run until March 26, 2024.

VII. EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT


To assess the effectiveness and impact of our reading-based work immersion program, we can use the
following methods.
Pre and Post-program assessments to measure student's reading skills and comprehension level
Reading logs and reflections to track the students' reading habits and improvement
Classroom observations to assess students' engagement and participation during reading activities
Assessments of learning objectives through quizzes, assignments, and projects (if needed)
The Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and metrics that can be used to measure
success and gather participant feedback in our work immersion program are;
Reading Proficiency Levels: Measured improvements in students' reading skills and comprehension
through Pre and Post-program assessments
Participation Rates: Track the percentage of the students actively engaged in the learning activities during
the program.
Reading Logs: Analyze students' reading logs to assess the number of books they read, reading time,
and reflections on their whole experience

XI. SUSTAINABILITY AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

In order to maintain the sustainability and secure the future development of continuous literacy and progress in
reading comprehension of students, this program plans to proceed with conducting another work immersion
program for the next year, guaranteeing them an ingrained comprehension and solidified teaching
effectiveness.

VIII. MARKETING AND OUTREACH STRATEGY

To promote our Immersion Program to the target audience and community, we can follow a shorter and simpler
plan;

1.) We will first define our target audience, whether it's students, out-of-school-youths, parents, or other
individual. 2.) We will create compelling content that highlights the benefits and unique features of the
program, using blog posts, social media posts, and videos that we can also use our e-folio compilation of our
Work Immersion Program

3.) Lastly, we will promote our program with the help of the partner Elementary Teachers so that we can able to
reach our target population and the number of the targeted audience that we will be teaching.

To effectively promote our Immersion Program, it's important to utilize various marketing channels. Such
as; Community Outreach Efforts: We will engage with the local community through partnerships and
collaborations, that we can also use to gain the attention of the parents to give them assurance that our
Work Immersion Program will surely create and give their children an amazing and joyous knowledge that
they can use.
Social Media: We will create a strong presence on popular social media platforms like Facebook,
Instagram, and etc. We will post some engaging contents, share program updates, and interact with our
audiences online.

IX. CONCLUSION

The Key Components of the extension program template encompass the objectives, goals, and
essential elements that outline the entire process of our Work Immersion Program. These components include
the program's process, participant engagement, and the resulting impact. Through this, we aim to provide a
comprehensive summary of the program and it's outcomes. Additionally, the extension program incorporates
plans for sustainability, future engagements, iterative improvements, and potential expansion. By implementing
these components, the program thas the potential to significantly impact the target audience and community

and create a lasting impact within the community.

X. ANNEX D: INTRODUCTION

Teach, Inspire, Empower: A Reading-Based Work Immersion Program successfully improved the
reading proficiency of Grade-6 students in Barangay Payak, Bato. The program involved bi-weekly immersive
sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, totaling 10 hours over 5 days. This targeted approach addressed the
urgent need to improve reading comprehension, as highlighted by the Philippines' low ranking in the 2018 PISA
research and the high prevalence of learning poverty among Filipino children. The program's success
demonstrates the effectiveness of such interventions in enhancing reading skills and preparing students for
future challenges.

XI. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Mother Theresa Colegio de Balatan's Work Immersion Program aims to improve reading skills for
Grade-6 students at Dr. Heracleo A. Guballa Elementary School while providing practical experience for
Humanities and Social Sciences Students. Through bi-weekly sessions, the program enhances reading
comprehension and fosters a love for literature. Volunteers gain valuable expertise through direct engagement
with students, unlocking knowledge and opportunities. The Teach, Inspire, Empower: A Reading-Based Work
Immersion Program successfully enhances reading aptitude for Grade-6 students in Barangay Payak, Bato.
The program's success demonstrates the effectiveness of interventions in enhancing reading skills and
preparing students for future challenges. By emphasizing comprehension and nurturing a passion for reading,
the program equips students with the competencies to excel academically and beyond.

XII. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The program and goals of Mother Theresa Colegio de Balatan's Work Immersion Program is two-fold
such as ¹to boost the reading skills among the Grade-6 Elementary Students of Dr. Heracleo A. Guballa
Elementary School and ²to provide a hands-on experience for us the Humanities and Social Sciences
Students. This program, running twice weekly enables students to enhance their reading comprehension and
fosters a love for reading. The volunteers gain invaluable experience through our direct engagement with the
students. Together we're opening doors to a world of knowledge.

XIII. SUSTAINABILITY AND FUTURE PLANS

To promote literacy and reading comprehension among students in our urban barangay, we will support
initiatives that focus on enhancing their reading skills. One of the key initiatives is to collaborate with
volunteering teachers who will dedicate their time and expertise to help the youths, especially elementary
students, improve their reading comprehension. These passionate teachers will provide one-on-one or small
group support, guiding students through reading activities and fostering a deeper understanding of the texts.
Additionally, we will work with the barangay and other government or non-government organizations to
establish a small library or reading corner within the community.
XIIII. CONCLUSION

The work immersion program has not only provided students with valuable academic knowledge but has
also fostered a sense of self-confidence and independence. Through their participation in real-world work
environments and interactions with professionals, students have developed a deeper understanding of their
own strengths, interests, and career aspirations. This program has allowed them to explore various fields of
interest and gain insights into the practical application of their classroom learning. By empowering students to
take ownership of their learning and encouraging them to set personal goals, the work immersion program has
laid a strong foundation for their future success. The active involvement of the barangay and other government
or non-government organizations in supporting the program has created a collaborative and supportive
environment for the students. This partnership has not only provided additional resources and opportunities but
has also fostered a sense of shared responsibility in nurturing the students' educational journey. The work
immersion program has become a catalyst for community engagement and has inspired a collective
commitment to the growth and development of the younger generation. Together, we will continue to build upon
the successes of the program and explore new avenues to further enhance the educational experiences of our
students.
