DID YOU KNOW?
Someone needs blood every two seconds.
Less than 10% of the eligible U.S. population (38%)
donates annually.
There is no substitute for human blood.
One in seven people entering a hospital need
blood.
Females receive 53 percent of blood transfusions.
The red liquid that circulates in the arteries and veins of humans
and other vertebrate animals, carrying oxygen to and carbon
dioxide from the tissues of the body. (Dictionary, 2024)
It is a fluid that circulates in the heart, arteries, capillaries, and
veins of a vertebrate animal carrying nourishment and oxygen to
and bringing away waste products from all parts of the body.
Blood is one of the tissues of the body. It is a liquid tissue as
opposed to a solid tissue like the skin. There are four important
components to the blood known as serum, red blood cells
(RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets. The serum is the
part of blood that contains water, fluids, and proteins made by
organs such as the liver, while the RBCs, WBCs, and platelets are
contained within the plasma.
Levitico 17:11
FORMED
ELEMENTS
OF BLOOD
RED BLOOD
CELLS
Red blood cells, or erythrocytes, are one of the components of blood. (The others are plasma,
platelets and white blood cells.) They are continuously produced in our bone marrow. It carry
oxygen from our lungs to the rest of our bodies. Then they make the return trip, taking carbon
dioxide back to our lungs to be exhaled.
A low red blood cell count, known as anemia, can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness
and other symptoms. If untreated, anemia can lead to serious complications. Choosing foods
that are rich in iron and other vitamins and minerals can help raise the red blood cell count.
WHITE BLOOD CELLS
White blood cells, also known as leukocytes, are responsible for protecting your body from
infection. As part of your immune system, white blood cells circulate in your blood and
respond to injury or illness.
Your white blood cells are in your bloodstream and travel through blood vessel walls and
tissues to locate the site of an infection. They are colorless but can appear as a very light
purple to pink color when examined under a microscope and colored with dye
WHITE BLOOD CELLS
Five types of White Blood Cells
1. Neutrophil: Help protect your body from infections
2. Lymphocytes: Consist of T-cells & B-cells
3. Eosinophils: Identify and destroy parasites
4. Basophils: Produce an allergic response
5. Monocytes: Defend against infection
What are the common conditions and disorders that affect white blood cells?
If you have a low white blood cell count, you are likely to get infections
(leukopenia).
If your white blood cell count is too high (leukocytosis), you may have
underlying medical condition like leukemia, lymphoma or an immune
disorder.
WHITE BLOOD CELLS
Platelets
1. Platelets, or thrombocytes, are small, colorless cell fragments in
our blood that form clots and stop bleeding.
2. Platelets are made in our bone marrow. Bone marrow contains
stem cells that develop into red blood cells, white blood cells, and
platelets
3. The normal platelet count is 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per
microliter of blood.
4. What are platelets used for: Platelets control bleeding in our
bodies
Platelets
What happens if your platelet count is high or low
Thrombocytopenia: In this condition, your bone marrow makes too few platelets. Or your
platelets are destroyed. These include several medicines, cancer, liver disease, pregnancy,
infections, and an abnormal immune system.
Essential thrombocythemia. In this condition, your bone marrow makes too many
platelets.Other symptoms can include blood clots.
Secondary thrombocytosis. This is another condition caused by too many platelets. More
common. Another disease or condition stimulates the bone marrow to make more
platelets.Causes include infection, anemia, inflammation, some types of cancer, and
reactions to medicines.
Symptoms of low platelets include bruising easily and unusual bleeding
BLOOD
TYPES
A blood type (also known as a blood group) is a classification of
blood that is determined by the presence or absence of antibodies
and inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood
cells. These antigens are molecules that can be proteins,
carbohydrates, glycoproteins, or glycolipids, depending on the
blood group system.
According to the American Red Cross, if a person receives red blood cells containing antigens that are
not currently present in their system, their body will reject and attack the new red blood cells. This can
result in a severe or even life-threatening reaction. Most people use the ABO system to classify blood
types and the rhesus factor, which can be positive or negative. Blood types are inherited and reflect
both parents' contributions to an individual.
ABO is the most well-known system for categorizing blood types. The ABO group divides into four broad
categories: A, B, O, and AB. Within these groups, there are eight other blood types, which are:
A positive (A+) A negative (A-)
B positive (B+) B negative (B-)
AB positive (AB+) AB negative (AB-)
O positive (O+) O negative (O-) “Universal Blood Type”
Santiago 1:17
The Rh blood group, which includes both Rh-negative and Rh-positive, was discovered much
later (in 1940), long after biblical authors finished writing.
Rh-negative blood can affect pregnancies if not treated, and it has become central to certain
conspiracy theories involving the Nephilim.
Rh-Negative Blood and Pregnancy:
If a mother is Rh-negative and her first baby is Rh-positive,
there’s a potential danger if their blood mixes during pregnancy. The
mother’s antibodies could attack and destroy the second child’s blood
cells. Fortunately, an Rh immune globulin injection can prevent the
mother’s body from producing antibodies. Although the Rh-negative trait
is rare, occurring in about 15% of Caucasians in Europe, Canada, and the
United States, it’s essential to manage during pregnancy
PSALMS 139:13-14
"13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my
mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."
LEVITICUS 17:11
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you
upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the
blood that maketh an atonement for the soul."
LET’S WATCH
THINGS TO
DO TO MAKE
OUR BLOOD
HEALTHY
According to Dr. Kumar (2023) that to keep our blood
healthy, we must do the following:
1. Balanced Diet
2. Stay Hydrated
3. Regular Exercise
4. Maintain a Healthy Weight
5. Avoid Tobacco and Alcohol Consumption
6. Manage Stress
7. Regular Health Check-ups
8. Donating Blood
BLOOD
DONATION
What is Blood Donation?
Blood donation is when you give some of your blood to help save
other people's lives.
Blood donation is when someone willingly donates blood. This
blood can be used for transfusions or to produce certain
medications.
Is donating blood wrong?
The answer is NO.
It was stated in I John 3:16
that:
"Hereby perceive we the love
of God, because he laid down
his life for us: and we ought to
lay down our lives for the
brethren.”
DO’S BEFORE DONATING BLOOD:
Drink extra water before donating.
Eat a healthy meal, avoid eating fatty foods like hamburgers, fries or
ice cream.
Wear a shirt with sleeves that you can roll up above your elbows.
Relax, listen to music, talk to other donors or read while you donate.
Have some enough rest before donating.
This prohibition against eating (or drinking) blood was a universal one,
covering the whole Old Testament, and leaping over into the New Testament.
Both Jews and the nations (Gentiles)were all admonished to abstain.
IMPORTANCE
OF BLOOD TO
OUR BODY
AND LIVES
The blood is mainly composed of plasma, erythrocytes (RBC),
leukocytes(WBC), and thrombocytes(platelets) which the body uses to
transfer antibodies, transfer nutrients consumed from food, and brings
waste products to the kidney to be filtered thus cleaning the blood.
Our blood has some of the major functions in our body such as
transporting oxygen to out lungs and taking carbon dioxide, regulating
body temperature and helps stop bleeding from wounds.
It is true that disorders and diseases of the blood can impair our bodily
functions. These examples include: anemia- or being low on
hemoglobin levels, this disease has the symptoms of having pale skin,
and low energy which leads to fatigue. Hemophilia- your body bleeds or
bruises easily due to lack of clotting factors in the blood
Leviticus 17:11
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the
altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes
atonement for the soul.
Hebrews 9:22
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and
without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Revelation 7:14
And I said to him, 'Sir, you know.' So he said to me, 'These are the ones
who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made
them white in the blood of the Lamb.
In these verses we can clearly state that in the
biblical sense, blood is given to the children of God
for atonement of sins, for purifying and cleaning
the souls. Cleaning is the major function of the
blood in the bible, just as it is that the body uses
blood to clean its organs.
