BADMINTON TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES

General Rules:

 Tournament Format: The tournament will follow a knockout format, with players or teams
eliminated after a loss.
 Match Format: Matches will be played best of three games, with each game up to 21 points using
the rally scoring system.
 Equipment: During the match the players must bring their own racket. Shuttlecock is provided by
the organizers.
 Attire: Participants must wear proper sports attire in their department's designated color.

Categories:

1. Men's Singles
2. Women's Singles
3. Men's Doubles
4. Women's Doubles
5. Mixed Doubles

Match Guidelines:

 Scoring: Each game is played to 21 points. A player/team must win by at least 2 points, with a
maximum of 30 points to win a game.
 Service Rules: Standard badminton service rules apply. In doubles and mixed doubles, service
rotation and order must be maintained.
 Breaks: A 1-minute break is allowed when a player/team reaches 11 points in each game, and a 2-
minute break between games.

Specific Rules for Each Category:

 Men's Singles & Women's Singles:


o Eligibility: Open to all male and female students, respectively.
o Format: Individual competition; players compete one-on-one.
 Men's Doubles & Women's Doubles:
o Teams: Composed of two players from the same department.
o Eligibility: Open to male and female teams, respectively.
o Service Rotation: Teams must alternate serves after each rally won, following standard
doubles rules.
 Mixed Doubles:
o Teams: Each team consists of one male and one female player.
o Eligibility: Open to mixed-gender teams from any department.
o Service Rotation: Mixed doubles-specific rules apply for service rotation and player
positioning.

Note: Players from single match can also participate in mix doubles match.

Conduct and Fair Play:

 Sportsmanship: Participants must demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for opponents,
officials, and spectators.
 Officials: Matches will be officiated by umpires and line judges. All decisions made by officials are
final.
 Injury Time-Outs: A maximum of 5 minutes is allowed for injury time. If a player cannot continue
after this period, the match is forfeited.

Disqualification and Penalties:

 Late Arrival: Players/teams must arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled match. Late
arrivals will forfeit their match.
 Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Actions such as intentional fouls, verbal abuse, or any other form of
misconduct will result in warnings, point penalties, or disqualification.
 Equipment Compliance: Players using non-compliant equipment or attire will be disqualified.

Registration and Eligibility:

 Eligibility: All currently enrolled students of Madridejos Community College are eligible to
participate.
 Tryout/ Screening: students who are willing to join badminton tournament will proceed to their
department screening schedules.
 Confirmation: eliminated participants during their department screening will be the one to compete
during intramurals.

Awards and Recognition:

 Prizes: Medals and certificates will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in each category
(Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles).
