Name of the Subject: International Math (0607)

Curriculum: IGCSE

Grade level: 9

School Year: 2024 - 2025

_______________________________________________________________________________

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics has been developed for schools offering an
international curriculum. It complements the IB curriculum, offering an assessment and
certification at the end of the Middle Years Programme. Cambridge International Mathematics
reflects the way today’s learners like to learn: they will acquire a solid foundation of mathematical
skills and learn how to develop strategies for solving open-ended problems. The course also allows
learners to develop and sharpen their investigation and modelling skills, and introduces them to the
use of graphical calculators - a necessary part of the IB Diploma.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The aims are to enable students to:
● develop mathematical skills and apply them to other subjects and to the real world
● develop methods of problem-solving
● interpret mathematical results and understand their significance
● develop patience and persistence in solving problems
● develop a positive attitude towards mathematics which encourages enjoyment, fosters
confidence and promotes enquiry and further learning
● appreciate the elegance of mathematics
● appreciate the difference between mathematical proof and pattern spotting
● appreciate the interdependence of different branches of mathematics and the links with
other disciplines
● appreciate the international aspect of mathematics, its cultural and historical significance
and its role in the real world
● read mathematics and communicate the subject in a variety of ways
● acquire a foundation of mathematical skills appropriate to further study and continued
learning in mathematics.

CLASSROOM NORMS:
s be respectful and courteous to their teachers and peers.
from inappropriate, offensive, disruptive, demeaning or threatening comments.
pared for the lesson with all the learning material as required.
m the teacher in advance in case of absenteeism.
on all assignments and assessments with the level of academic integrity expected by the school.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:

What to expect from the teacher:

1. In-class work: Expect to use class time efficiently and productively.

2. Homework: Expect to have daily assignments, supplemented by other worksheets.
3. Accessibility: Feel free to approach for any kind of clarification.

What is expected from the student:

1. Keep up to date with the work. Seek help whenever required.

2. Autonomous learning: To become or continue being a proactive self-motivated learner.
3. Always have and to use your Graphic Calculator.
4. Explore different ways of approaching a mathematical problem.
5. Develop independence in their mathematical learning through solving practical
questions and engaging in mathematical investigation and mathematical modelling.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Practice – homework and reviewing content must be done before coming to class.
2. Notebooks – note-taking: Use your notebook to copy examples, take notes and key
information.
3. Become familiar with the difficulty and style of IGCSE past paper questions.
4. If a student is absent, the student is responsible to check with their teacher or peers to make up for
missed work. Late submissions will not be accepted unless there is a medical reason.

5. Tardiness: Be on time for class. All delays or absences will be noted.

6. Academic honesty: Have in mind that plagiarism will lead to serious consequences. Any
notebooks or homework that looks too similar will also face serious penalties.
7. Respect: Respect each other’s voice. Listen to each other.
