BULLYING
TASK #1
Giving nasty looks, making rude gestures, calling names, being rude and
impolite, and constantly negative teasing.
Taking advantage of any power over someone else likes a Prefect or a Student
Representative.
Bullying can happen anywhere. It can be in schools, at home, at work, in online social
spaces, via text messaging or via email.
Task #1
Three examples of some incidents of Bullying you have seen or experienced.
When I was in preschool there was a group of kids that never wanted me play with
them.
Then once in the mall I saw a boy tripping a girl by the food court and she cried
because she got hurt.
Do you think that bullying is a good or a bad thing? Explain your answer.
I think bullying is a bad behaviour. I think this because it hurts people feelings and
sometimes people are hurt physically.
Task #2
List 3 different types of Bullying.
1. Physical Bullying
2. Verbal Bullying
3. Cyber Bullying
Physical Bullying is the most obvious form of intimidation and can consist of
kicking, hitting, biting, pinching, hair pulling, and making threats. A bully may
threaten to punch you if you don't give up your money, your lunch, etc.
Verbal Bullying often accompanies physical behaviour. This can include name
calling, spreading rumours, and persistent teasing.
Cyber Bullying is one or a group of kids or teens using electronic means via
computers and mobile phones (emails, Web sites, chat rooms, instant
messaging and texting) to torment, threaten, harass, humiliate, embarrass or
target another kid or teen.
Give one example for each type of bullying listed above that you have seen,
experienced of heard about.
Physical Bullying Once I saw a video of school children beating up one girl in their
class.
Verbal Bullying During recess at school at Princes Town ASJA Primary School kids
from other classes usually calls the younger kids’ hurtful names.
Cyber Bullying In some of the funny videos I watch there are usually hurtful
comments left for the creator of the video and to other viewers of the video.
Task #3
Write one emotion and one behaviour a child who is bullied displays / shows.
A child that is bullied are very sad (emotion)
A child that is bullied can behave differently, but one way is to be by themselves
( withdraw from their friends and family, they can be anti-social)
List 2 things that you can do to help a person who is being bullied.
1. I can help the person by being a good friend to them, listening to them without being
judgemental.
2. Also assist them by getting help from being bullied. Advise them to tell someone who
would be able to stop the bullying from happening.
Do you think that a person who is being bullied should keep this bullying a secret?
Explain your answer.
No, I do not think a person who is being bullied should keep it a secret. If they keep it
a secret then the bully would continue to harass them and they would continue to be
stressed and sad.
Do you think that adults can help if a child is being bullied? Yes/no
Yes, adults can help if a child is being bullied. As adult have more experience and
would be able to handle the situation in a better way.
Name at least three adults who can help stop bullying at schools.
Class teacher
Principal
Guidance officer
Task #4
List two ways we prevent bullying from taking place at our school.
1. Teachers and coaches need to explicitly remind students that bullying is not accepted
in school and such behaviours will have consequences. Creating an anti-bullying
document and having both the student and the parents/guardians sign and return it to
the school office helps students understand the seriousness of bullying.
2. From the earliest ages, students should participate in activities that boost social-
emotional learning. As a teacher, find ways to help children understand and
appreciate their identity as well as others. To do this requires empathy and kindness.
Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and teachers need to
embed this skill into their curriculum. We need to do identity work with children
early on so that kids know who they are and who everybody else is and what their
place is in the world. One way to do this is to have kids get together and talk about
their differences. Allow them to practice conflict resolution, work through problems,
and build their understanding of those around them.
Write two pieces of advice would you give to someone who is being bullied.
1. One of the best advices I would give someone who is being bullied is to tell an adult
or someone in authority that may be able to assist them with the bulling.
2. Also I will let them know that whatever the bully may have said to them, or have
called them does not reflect who they are. They need to know that the bully is the
wrong person in the situation and not them
