THE NATURE OF ROOTS OF QUADRATIC EQUATIONS
I. Objectives:
At the end of the 1-hour episodic class, the grade 9 students are expected to:
a. solve for the roots of quadratic equations using quadratic formula; and
b. finding the sum and product of the given quadratic equation.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: The nature of roots of quadratic equation
Materials: Chalk, Chalkboard, Manila Paper, Marker,
Integrated Subjects: EsP ,
III. Materials
- Chalk, Chalkboard, Manila Paper, Marker,
IV. Preliminary Activities
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminaries The students will pray.
-Prayer
-Greetings Good morning, Teacher______
Good Morning students! We’re fine.
How are you?
-Checking of Attendance
May I request the class secretary
to please report how many are
absent today? and who are
they? Ma’am, there are ___absent for male, and
___absent for female. They are
-House Rules __________________.
Okay class, Can you recall our
classroom rules yesterday?
If the students can answer the house The students will listen to the teacher…
rule give credits to the
students.
If the students can’t remember the Yes/ No ma’am…
house rules, the teacher will
make a recall of the RRS.
First, R, stands for respect. I want you
to respect your classmate’s
ideas and your teachers.
Second, R, is to raise your hand in
case you want to answer to
avoid unnecessary noise,
Lastly, S, stands for ‘share your
ideas’, I want you all to be
comfortable for share it to the
class.
Are we clear class?
Very good… Yes ma’am…
-Review
Question: What was our lesson
yesterday?
Students will share their insights about the
topic last meeting…
V. LESSON PROPER/PROCEDURE/METHODOLOGY
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
1. ACTIVITY
I will be dividing the class into two groups
and I have baskets here that contains 5
colored strips and each strip has a
discriminant that you need to determine it
nature of roots (whether it is real, equal or
unequal, rational or irrational, or imaginary in
nature).
The group who can answer the questions Students will start answering the activity…
correctly will receive 10 points for this
activity and this will be given equally to the
group.
The teacher will choose 5 students to write
their answers to the board.
POINT SYSTEM:
During the activity, the first group who
can answer the 5 questions correctly will
obtain 10 points and the second group will
obtain 7 points.
During the discussion, every recitation of
each student, the group will obtain 1 point
each correct answer.
Every wrong answer of the students, we
will deduct 1 point to the group’s score.
The noisiest group will be deducted 3
points every misbehavior occur.
The group who will obtain the highest
combined score will have plus five points
in their quiz and the other group will
receive 2 points.
Instruction: Write your answer below the
equation and post it in the card board given.
(giving of baskets)
Are you done class?
Yes ma’am…
Okay, let’s check your answers.
Presentation
“Okay class, our topic for today is all about The students will listen to the teacher….
the nature of roots of quadratic equation”
“Do you have any idea about our lesson?” “No, ma’am”
“Okay, now, let’s start our lesson”
2. ANALYSIS
The teacher will instruct the students
on what to do. The students will listen to the instructions and
will brainstorm for the answers.
“From the given activity, what are
your thoughts about the following
questions?”
Students will give their insights about the
Question/s: topic...
How can we solve for the roots of
quadratic equations using quadratic
formula?
How can we determine the nature of
its roots?
